Patrick Klepek: At
Tokyo Game Show, it's widely believed that Sony will be releasing concrete details about its motion controller that was announced at
E3 2009. A number of developers have expressed interest in it, especially because it might allow them to create games for the Wii and PlayStation 3 simultaneously (or at least open the door to proper ports).
What do you want to see from Sony's controller? Are you already tired of the motion control revolution? Scratch that. It doesn't even matter if you're tired of it because it isn't going anyway. Motion control is just getting started. It's only going to get bigger from here.

Raymond Padilla: Yesterday, I wrote about
Microsoft's upcoming 802.11n adapter for Xbox 360. Considering that the original 802.11b/g adapter carries a ridiculous price of $100, I wondered how much the new model would cost. (I'm guessing it'll probably be $100, while the older model's price is slashed...but that's not really the point. The point is...) First-party console-accessories often have huge markups to help make up for the money lost on consoles themselves. While it's easy to hide these markups in controllers or memory cards, it's harder to do it with things like wireless adapters and hard drives -- parts that have PC equivalents. There are a lot of educated customers out there that know it's ridiculous to charge $100 for a wireless adapter or $150 for a 120GB hard drive. Microsoft gets away with it by wrapping inexpensive PC parts in proprietary enclosures. It's a little evil and a little silly, but as long as people keep buying these horribly overpriced accessories, Microsoft will keep serving them up.
How do you feel about these expensive Xbox 360 peripherals? Have you bought either the hard drive or the wireless adapter? Knowing that the price is inflated, why did you "play ball" and encourage the practice?

If a third party came up with a version to use with FPS shooters then it would really be a plus for those that want realism in game play. They could even create a light saber version so that they could include the addition of the Star Wars Galaxies franchise to the console world...

Sonys motion controller is going to be awesome. And their is a lot of cool things you will be able to do with it. Microsofts project natal is going to make you get up and move around like an idiot. And make you talk to a little kid on your tv.
Natal is going to fail. End of story.
SONY FTW!!!!!!

I'll keep my $10, 50ft cable before shelling out $100 for a simple wireless adapter.

i hate it raymond but i had no choice but to pay the 100 bucks for mine. This was because i tried the cheaper pelican bay one, but it was a real pain to install on the my computer, which is a Mac and therefore more complicated, connecting it to the router so it can connect, and a bunch of other crap. I'm rather tech savvy but it was such a pain, and i couldn't get it to work so i said the hell the with it, i'll pay the 100 bucks for the easy hookup and all i had to do was input my IP Address. Took me five minutes. This was a while ago, so i have no idea if there are better alternatives now, but until one is just as simple as microsoft's wireless adapter, other consumers might just fork up the cash. As to the hard drives, aboslutely ridiculous. at least my ps3 has a wireless adapter built in, and i can update the hard drive to 500 gb using a PC hard drive for around 100 bucks, prolly less!

Well unless you are talking a boycott of the products, I am not seeing a change anytime soon. I think the wireless internet device for the 360 is over priced but I got one. Even the generic controllers and such are expensive so unless you are buying used you are going to pay out the ass for it. Just my thoughts on the matter.

So R-Pad how come it takes you this long in the 360 life to brought this up? I mean if the buyer were educated right from the start maybe it would make an impact. So there you have R-Pad is on strike and wants a bigger pair of diamond shoes.

I would never by an Xbox let alone an adapter or a hard drive for one. I think it's hilarious where consumer loyalty lies with Microsoft. One of the main reasons comsumers are continuing to buy Xbox's is because of the price of the console. Thank god thats coming to an end. No one thinks about the rest of the costs. You're hit with add ons and batteries for your controllers and then the membership to play "live" after you just dropped $60 for the games. And Nintendo is just as guilty. How many times are they going to release the same game with a different cover and how many DS's are they going to keep putting out. Everyone dogs Sony but if you really think about it they are the only company right now who is giving a quality product for your hard earned money.

I think microsoft over pricing there peripherals sux. I don't need the wifi adapter but I could use a larger hardrive but to pay 149.99 for a 120 gig is ridiculous. I can get a 500 gig for my PS3 from best buy for 89.00. And the fact that microsoft won't be selling the 250 gig as a stand alone product is even more ridiculous they won't me to pay 399.99 for a console I don't need and a game I don't want just to get a 250gig hardrive its just ridiculous.

Nobody is accusing me of being paid by Microsoft today. *sniff*

why did you "play ball"? it's a dumb, really, really, really dumb question. if you are out of space on a 20gb you either buy 120gb or you're SOL. there simply isn't a 3rd-party choice. there are no other options. what do you expect us to do?

I think 360 fans are being wrongfully gouged for their wifi and hard drives. Its ridiculous what they have to pay. As for sony's motion controller, I like what I've seen. I like the ot of the box 1:1 ratio and I like the integration with the playstation eye (Natal is missing controller buttons and the wii is missing the camera). I think that although sony's setup is the roughest looking at the moment, I think that it has the most potential since it has everything that nintendo and microsoft has with their systems. Ultimately, I think the winner will be decided by 1st party support (or 3rd party exclusives to give microsoft a fair shot) and lots and lots of good marketing (sony's Achilles heel). May the loudest most memorable product win.

i bought the wireless adapter cause i get internet from the guy next door lol

I love that people are FINALLY acknowledging what I've been saying for ages now. The PS3 has ALWAYS been easily a better value than the 360. A $600 PS3 was cheaper than a 360 was at that time when you bought all the extra crap the 360 needed to be comparable. And by comparable I mean still inferior, but as close as it was gonna get.
It's ridiculous the amount of crap people buy to upgrade their "fairly" priced console.
How the hell the 360 expects to compete with the PS3 at the same price point.....well, I have no idea. In a logical world it COULDN'T. But hey, logic never was mankind's forte.

Some of you aren't too smart if you think you got something for free from sony. Lower cost, yes, and sony hurts every time. But it was never free.

Damage control time. Let's see those spin moves.

I haven't bought a hard drive, but I did eventually break down and get a Wi-Fi adapter about 2 months ago when I moved and became reliant on wireless. It was out of necessity rather than desire for the most part.
RRODisBack
Seriously guys, M$ knows you have no other choice in most cases so they have no reason to come down on the prices. They no that you will have to give in eventually. Same goes for Silver members, if they want to play their games online they will have to break down and pay for it.
Fuzion9
to tell you the truth i am pretty tired of motion control. I loved it at first but at the moment the games that revolve around motion control seem a little less fluid and in some games it seems like an after thought. Im looking forward to the day they really nail down the technology but at the moment im fine with my old fashioned 360 and PS3 controller (luckily not many PS3 games shove motion control down your throat).
EntropyMu
The expensive peripherals were a big part of the reason I chose PS3 over 360. Even when the PS3 was more expensive, the ~$100 wireless adapter that I need to have my 360 system connected to the internet equaled out the price of the PS3. I realize lots of consumers aren't educated about stuff like that, or don't do research before they buy - so lots of people get ripped off in the end.

I dont have a clue what sony has to offer with its motion toy. however, it does not matter to me, there is nothing they can do to make me purchase a PS3
