Lost Planet Movie Isn't Based On The Storylines Of Either Lost Planet Game

There's a Lost Planet movie in development. The voice of Solid Snake and co-writer of the Watchmen movie, David Hayter, is working on the screenplay. When Billy Berghammer spoke with Lost Planet 2 producer Jun Takeuchi at GamesCom 2009, however, we learned the Lost Planet movie won't actually be based on the storylines featured in the original Lost Planet or the upcoming sequel.

"[There] probably [won't be] so much of a reference to this particular title [Lost Planet 2]," explained Takeuchi. "However, the only thing I know is those people working on the project that they love the world of Lost Planet. So, we know that they’re going to utilize that world, but as far as the story line goes, the movie is completely different from the game."

Takeuchi also revealed that Keiji Inafune, the creator of Mega Man and a guy overseeing much of Capcom's development these days, is working on the movie. Inafune has been involved in the planning of both Lost Planet games and is collaborating with the folks creating the movie, as well.

Outside of a few comments made by Capcom staff, there hasn't been much said about the Lost Planet movie since it was announced at E3 2008.

Well, I suppose that's pretty good news. Honestly, LP1 didn't have too great of a story (and that frickin Gundam ripoff haha) and LP2 looks to be focused more on 4-player co-op than an involving narrative (much like L4D).

All we need is a good sequel to Starship Troopers.

Thats actually not too bad in this case, because Capcom doesn't usually have the best writing in their games.

Since the lost planet story was completly incomprehensible in the places where it wasn't a cliche' this is a good move. I seriously can't understand why people are so excited about lost planet 2 when the first one had so many problems. I didn't play it until a couple of years after it came out and it seemed broken in so many places I couldn't belive this was the full game. It seemed more like a game demo than a finished product of any kind. Yeah, the world was cool but instead of making it about the world they tried to work some kind of lame ass ice pirate revenge storyline into it that never made any sense. The level design was horrible too. It was like something from the early days of 3D games when no one knew how to design a 3D game world so they just started with a flat plane and stuck some blocks on top of it that you had to climb. That being said the rocket launcher explosion was excellent. I had more fun just shooting rockets and watching the smoke than actually trying to play the game.
