New Silent Hill Movie Announced

Mediocre video game-based film Silent Hill is getting the sequel treatment. Columbia Pictures has officially announced it is going to begin production on Silent Hill II: The Legend of Curly's Gold after the completion of Sony Screen Gems' Resident Evil: Afterlife.

Returning for part two are screenwriter Roger Avary and producer Samuel Hadida. There is no word yet on whether director Christoph Gans or any original cast members ( Radha Mitchell, Sean Bean, Laurie Holden, Alige Krige and Jodelle Ferland) will be back for round two.

I liked the first Silent Hill movie. It was an effective horror flick, and I never actually expected it to rise the heights of terror of the best of the video games. Even though I am a huge fan of the game series, the movie didn't feel like an insult to the games, but another piece of the mythology.  I feel like giving the sequel to another director would totally work. After all, the "star" of a Silent Hill movie is bound to be the creepy settings: You could tell a million tales of terror in the dark town of Silent Hill.

What do you think?

Greatest movie ever made and the greatest games ever made. There are so many great things you can do with this movie but I don't think you can beat the original.

You've got to be kidding... The Legend of Curly's Gold? That is one hell of a lame title.

The first movie was good I enjoyed it as a stand alone movie. It even shared a few things with the game but it didn't have the one thing that made The Silent Hill games for me, and that are the puzzles. I loved solving them in the games and when I watched the movie I was waiting for some puzzles to pop up but they never did. It was like who ever wrote the script (who did a good job) asked someone to explain the game in one breath, and they got the plot out but ran out of breath before they got to what made the game fun to play, (and to watch others play).

I've played the Second Silent Hill game and it was amazing. So of course I would see the movie. I knew going in that video-game films aren't always good, and same for the horror genre. So in the end I got more than expected. Can't wait for the sequel

Not a huge fan of the game...because I never played it. But the thought of another Silent Hill movie is great. I loved the first movie and would defiantly pay (Ticket/DVD) too see another.

And I hope they bring back Sean Bean...not to say I didn't think Radha Mitchell, Laurie Holden, Alige Krige and Jodelle Ferland didn't do a great job...but they're all dead!

To be honest, I've never played a Silent Hill game. Someday I'll get around to it.
But the Silent Hill movie is one of my favorites. It actually felt like a video game in a way.
I can't wait for the sequel.

great news, what i enjoyed most of the first movie, is the background music ( soundtrack) that was just genius, the ending credits's music taken from silent hill 3.....let's just hope for more of that in the sequel

The first Silent Hill was totally underrated. Creepy atmosphere, a well developed although somewhat unrefined plot and interesting characters. That had better not be the title though or I will see about getting pyramid head after those producers seriously wtf.

I liked the first Silent Hill movie. I didn't live up to the games standards, but it was still a good movie.

But Hot Cop is dead. Twice-dead, even. What is Silent Hill without Hot Cop, I ask you?

Everybody I know that ISN'T in to video games that watched Silent Hill... liked it. That right there might make it the best video game movie ever.

I've been doing alot of thinking about this lately. I asked myself "Would I rather sit back and watch an exact recreation of the first Resident Evil or Silent Hill story... or would I rather interact with those stories (as I did) and watch something new?". In no way could I say I wouldn't rather just play the games again.

However, I would have liked the movies to be better... just not the same. But that's just my opinion.
