Skate 3 Announcement Teaser »

Updated: Teaser Trailer Live

Electronic Arts revealed the next title in the Skate franchise: Skate 3. The game is set to ship in May 2010, and aims to "take all of the camaraderie and competitive excitement of real-life skateboarding and brings it to the hands of gamers." Players will be able to team up in a co-op sense to build a skate crew, then take part in team-based challenges, compete against rival crews and "leave their mark on the all-new skater’s paradise, Port Carverton."

“The social and community aspects of the Skate franchise are something we’ve always embraced, but we’ve never done anything to the scale you’re going to see in Skate 3,” said Senior Producer, Jason DeLong in a press release. “We’re giving gamers a very unique experience by providing them with the tools they need to build their ultimate team or to create a team comprised entirely of their online friends. From there, it’s all about proving yourself – teaming up, and throwing down.”

Skate 3 will also offer beefed up opportunities for user created content, allowing players to make their own graphics, videos, and skate parks. The game is in development at EA's Black Box studio, and will be released on the PS3, 360 in May, 2010.

I don't want to play favorites or anything, but I think the battle of the skateboarding games clearly belongs to Skate... Tony Hawk may have the famous name and the dedicated peripheral, but, personally, I have no interest in playing it, where Skate 3 sounds awesome. Which game do you want to try most?

Stay tuned: We'll have Skate 3's first trailer up on the site soon.

Im a huge fan of skate, skate is the best graphiced and realistic game ive ever played. i think skate is better than skate two because the graphics are realistic and also gameplay. The more skate sequnces the more it will turn into the same image as tony hawks. all im saying is dont take it 2 frar aye!

Well I agree with ifonlytobreathe. One of the things that burnt people out on TH was the quantity of games with no real improvements. Now I like what Skate 3 is bringing, but EA should possibly look at sales of games(ex. Last years Madden sold more than this years.) Also the graphics look pretty much the same and I know they could do better. So yay for the new additions in Skate 3 and boo to EA for repeating history countless times and not letting franchises breathe for a bit. We don't need a new Madden every year.

i really dug skate 2 but yea even after the patch that "fixed" the off board controls it was still sketchy. id really like to see ea go further into the user created content via the web like they have done with ncaa 2010's teambuilder. being able to design a park or something using a web browser would be most excellent. it was tedious at times to move stuff around to get it just the way you wanted with out the physics engine slinging something across the way because it came into contact with another object.

Like others have said it starting to sound like the Tony Hawk franchise. What was really all that different from Skate to Skate2? I'm not expecting them to change the game a ton but now they are starting Skate3 and it seems little has changed.

Maybe you'll actually be able to control the character once they're off the board this time too! That's a pretty novel idea.

I am so stoked they announced this, I am a huge fan I own and play often both of the first and I'm very excited for this. I just want the people who do skate to do a snowboarding game, those shawn white games suckkkkkkkkkkk, and we need a well done, real snowboarding game.

While I love Skate, I think that they are following in the footsteps of the Tony Hawk series. Releasing one every year will eventually kill the franchise. I think I bought TH3 and then gave up on the rest.

yeah, activision needs to throw in the towel on the TH series, barring EA losing billions in a new ponzi scheme and having to shut down EVERY single project they have there is no real hope for a recovery for the TH series
