Last week I posted a video of Kurt Cobain's avatar rocking out in Guitar Hero 5. It's pretty disturbing to fans to see the troubled lead singer of Nirvana busting out Flava Flav rhymes or singing Stevie Wonder tunes. But it's apparently not just fans who are upset. Cobain's widow, Courtney Love, isn't happy either.
"For the record this Guitar Hero sh*t is breach of contract on a Bullys part and there will be a proper addressing of this and retraction," Love posted on her Twitter feed.
She also tweeted:
WE are going to sue the sh*t out of ACtivision we being the Trust the Estate the LLC the various LLCs Cobain Enterprises.
And:
i vomited when i saw the avatar got ill cried
And:
FOR THE RECORD I DID NOT APPROVE KURTS AVATAR FOR GUYITARHERO5. i think Kurt would despise this game alone let alone this avatar.
So there you have it: Love is very angry, so angry, it seems that her Twitter feed is full of disjointed and confusing rants.
What do you think of the Cobain avatar? Is it all in good fun or a blight on the legacy of a talented artist? What would Kurt think?

All you people who cry about "mainstream" give me a break! I think it's great he is in the game. I'm pretty sure Love has a song on one of these games. She needs to shut her mouth! As for the mainstream cry babies, go look through your CD collection and insert foot when you see Green Day, or Smashing Pumpkins, or pretty much any rap album known to man!

From the very first time I heard this, I thought this would be something that would be kind of a slap in the face for Kurt. I mean, the guy had a tortured soul and his fame only compounded it.
I don't think Kurt would have anything against games like Guitar Hero and Rock Band. In fact, I think he would actually encourage parts of it, especially the discovery of new music aspect that many people encounter when playing the game. I don't think he would want to be involved in it and I don't see him being one of those people that would play it, but I don't think he would go as far as to run these titles down.
To me, it sounds like Kurt's people were under the impression that he would only appear in certain songs and more than likely just Nirvana songs. I mean, I don't see how there is any way that this just crept up on them and they are surprised by him being in the game. It seems they are upset about what he is doing in the game.
As far as people knocking on Kurt's talent, I personally think he was an amazing song write of almost John Lennon proportions. He clearly isn't a guitar god or anything like that, but the guy could craft a song and sing it like no one's business in my humble opinion.
This will be an interesting story to listen for details on.

Oh please...Kurt Cobain would love this game...cmon..think about how cool it would be to see yourself in a game while on a heroin binger right before you eat the business end of a shotgun and take the coward's way out of life. I'm getting sick of all this b.s. about how talented or how much of a rock icon cobain is. Let's call it like it is....he's just another junkie who went belly up!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What about Johnny Cash. He is dead too and nobody has a problem with that. Jimi Hendrix was created for GH. It's just a game for goodness sake. Courtney just wants the money and publicity.

As much as Activision rubs me the wrong way, I'm sure their lawyers did all the necessary paperwork to not give up a penny if sued over the use of Cobaine's likeness. But considering Cobaine is singing other artists' songs in GH5, Activision will probably whore out his image other places as well:
Cobaine of Duty: World at War
007: Cobaine of Solace
Transformers: Revenge of the Kurt
etc.

Yeah, I don't know about this one. I remember when Kurt passed away and all the controversy surrounding Courtney's relationship to him. She is such a huge screw up in my opinion and money hungry that I could see this settling out of court easily.
No one can truly say what Kurt would think of this...personally I don't see a problem with it.

Okay yeah I agree that Kurt's Avatar should only play Nirvana songs... I really can't stand Flava Flav... with his yellow teeth and his big clock. He's not really a contributor. When was the last year he made an actual recording???? The 80's maybe? I stopped paying attention.

I don't like Courtney. But I also do not think that Kurt would enjoy being an Avatar. If you read about the man and his life he hated being in the limelight. He hated being called a celebrity and preferred playing small clubs back in Seattle. I doubt he would be on board, but it is great to idolize him in this way. I just think there should be a limit where his Avatar can only play Nirvana type songs. None of this flava flav crap, thats just insulting for such a great artist.

Why do I have a hunch that the only reason Courtney is making these tweets is a fend off all of the Cobain fans mad that he's in the game? It seems incredibly unlikely that Activision didn't jump through all of the right hoops to make sure they would be able to use Cobain's likeness in the game....

Wow what an over the top reaction. Vomit really. I mean teary eyed would be acceptable but it is not like he died in the last 10 years. But I just cant believe you would vomit over something like that. I mean I could also see her get up set if the avatar was holding a shot gun or something but seriously now it i not that offensive.

Whoever says he is a legendary artist must need hearing aids. The Weird Al parody is the only thing good from Nirvana. Whatever happened to real talent like Elvis, The Beatles, etc?

I think he would be happy to see he's got an avator. Every Rock star wants a lagacy after they pass away. Now he's got an avator that live on. I see it more of like a tribute than anything else..They just want money..

She is broke and out of crack money, she had to sell her 50% stake in the band name to get out of bankruptcy ... it was something like that anyway.
I love the Unplugged album and Nevermind but they also made alot of crappy music too.

I think she may not have a case, and needs to reread the contract either she or the estate lawyers signed when Activision bought the Nirvana library for use.
