Welcome to "Morning Hangover" -- an excellent way to start your day with the crew at TheFeed...no matter what you're recovering from. Every morning you'll hear musings from two of TheFeed's editors and have the chance to share your thoughts on what's going on in the gaming world. So buckle up, kiss your beloved faction goodbye, and keep reading!

Jake: Like I said yesterday, Microsoft pushing Valve to charge Xbox 360 users for the upcoming Crash Course DLC for Left 4 Dead certainly makes sense from a business perspective (Valve is using Microsoft's console and service to deliver its game to players, therefore Microsoft is entitled to insisting on whatever terms it feels like). However, I have a feeling there are a number of gamers out there who will see DLC is free here but it costs money over here, and simply say, Microsoft is a bunch of evil, greedy monsters!
While I have no intention of jumping to Microsoft's defense here, I think that gamers need to take into consideration the numerous factors that go into decisions of this sort before getting up in arms about it. It's never just about one side simply being greedy and the other side being hapless accomplices. And when it comes to something like Steam vs. Xbox Live, it should be fairly obvious why the same piece of content can end up being offered for two different prices. At least I think it's obvious.
Am I wrong?
Patrick: Remember all of those people who said going to PAX made them sick? I just joined them. I'm not a walking, shambling zombie like some other folks in the office, but it's certainly making playing Scribblenauts harder than it should be. Puzzles, wargh!

stop crying it's 8 bucks or whatever for hours upon hours of gameplay, and yes even though it's a short campaign it will be hours and hours

Hey Scottydsntknow, I see that you mentioned Houston. I am driving to houston tonight to be at the chinese consulate tomorrow morning. Do you know anything about the area that the consulate is around? Like, is it "downtown" houston? I have never been to houston, so any advice you can give me is greatly appreciated.
Also, does anyone know of any good places to stay at in New Orleans? Planning on spending the weekend there, so any help would be great.

I'm sure we could find plenty of ps3 games that had high expectations and fell short... and Darkest of Days a AAA title? I seriously didn't even know it existed until your stupid little comment

I love my Xbox and have loved it for years now, but Microsoft is no longer in the same position it once was, Playstation 3 is 299 now... this changes EVERYTHING... Microsoft need to show some appreciation soon.

I personally think the price tag for DLC is too steep. I think a developer or publisher should be able to decide on the price and not MS. I'm not sure how much the DLC for L4D is, but I am going to assume around 800 MS points. That is alot for a level. You can buy whole arcade games for that price. Lost and the Damned is the only DLC that really merited its price tag. Though I didn't think the content was that great, the amount of content made the DLC appropriate. It really seems as if Valve was trying to give its customers a level that was held out of the initial release of L4D for whatever reason and MS wants them to charge for something they intended on packaging with the retail release anyway.
This brings up a question as far as digital only distribution is concerned. Would it be anti-competitive for MS, Sony or Nintendo to offer their games via their online stores? You can't go to a different website or service and pull down a game for the 360 or PS3; legally anyway. I think this would hurt the industry personally. To be perfectly honest I think $60 is alot for a game. I hardly ever buy a game for full price. I wait to see who puts it on sale, or if I get any reward zone certs, or some other kind of % off promotion. If games go primarily digital, how are we as consumers supposed to have a choice in what we pay? I like being able to pick up a 1 or 2 year old game for $30 or less. MS games on demand really put a negative light on digital distribution as far as full version retail games are concerned. They charge more than brick and mortar stores. The convenience aside from not having to go to the store....digital distribution is cheaper. So the titles on MS games on demand could be sold for less than $10 and still make a profit. I don't like the way this industry is headed. Competition is good and these companies wish to eliminate competition amongst retailers.
End rant.

And of course its going to be something you have to be a gold member to buy and use so yet again you pay double for something that is free. I don't get the rationale behind XBL. I get online on my PS3 and PC for free on the same internet as the 360 (except the others have a browser). And DLC that is Free should remain that way no matter who is distributing it. They should have placed a "NOT FOR RESALE" label on it.
And before people start saying XBL is better because of the multiplayer, I don't use multiplayer all that much, except to connect directly with a friend to play Crackdown or something and now that it is free for Silver members I am set.
Also my friends XBL account no longer will login, it says he has an invalid WindowsLive ID. We called a CSR and they said they needed the AOL account associated with his name. He has never had AOL. He changed his WL ID to a different email and kept his gamerscore, but his MS points were all gone and all of his DLC was too. He was logged in for 1 hour and it said his ID was no longer valid again. MS won't help, anyone know whats wrong?

I own an xbox and love it but Microsoft is the definition of greedy so please dont defend them. One of the most profitable and powerful companies in the world and they cant throw any of their consumers a bone. There pricing for everything is always to high, not even during a recession to they budge in price at all. No relief for all the people who made the company what it is by supporting it's products. Said it a hundred times before. We PAY for xbox live and we get nothing for it. Just online gaming. If ps3 could get there online together i would most likely jump ship.

Anyone been able to pick up the game of the year edition of littlebigplanet? I can't get my preorder yet since it hasn't came in and I can't find it anywhere in Houston.

I understand ththe point you made but what are the "factors" for microsoft making this demand? Can you tell me where the information is?
About your comment, "Valve is using Microsoft's console and service to deliver its game to players, therefore Microsoft is entitled to insisting on whatever terms it feels like." I don't think microsoft is in that possition. I mean if microsoft doesnt do it the way Valve wants it, can't Valve just say fine L4D isn't a xbox excusive anymore and neither is L4D2. We are taking it to sony and the playstation 3.
