Update: Check out the orchestra in action (above)
Music has always been a huge part of Final Fantasy games. The legendary Nobuo Uematsu has composed some of the most memorable gaming music ever, including the scores for numerous Final Fantasy games. Following his footsteps is no easy task, but that's what Masashi Hamauzu is doing.
A veteran of numerous Square Enix games, Hamauzu is getting his turn on the big series, working alongside Uematsu. At Square Enix's Final Fantasy XIII premiere party, an orchestra played some of his tracks. They sounded fantastic live and were totally memorable -- so much so that a bunch of game writers and I were humming a track on the way back from the event (never mind the horrible a cappella version that followed the humming). Here are some photos of the performance.

I see that the tradition of fine music in Final Fantasy games is not going to continue with the realease of FFXIII.

hey ray, i know your japanese isnt that great, but do you know if thats actually Masashi Hamauzu conducting?
i only ask because i dont know what he looks like, and a lot of composers dont actually know how to conduct. if he can conduct too (which i dont see why he wouldnt) then thats a pretty sick feat!

You think any of those people in the orchestra will actually ever play FFXIII?
