It seems like only yesterday that everyone was waiting for Grand Theft Auto IV... but according to video game industry analyst Michael Pachter, Grand Theft Auto V might be coming as early as next year.
Take Two hasn't publicly predicted any release window for the game, or even mentioned its existence. It's much more interested in the second piece of Grand Theft Auto IV DLC, "The Ballad of Gay Tony," which is set to come out on October 29th for the 360. "Gay Tony" and "The Lost and Damned," the first piece of downloadable GTA content, will be combined into one independent game that is scheduled to come out this holiday season.
Personally, I think Pachter is off base with this prediction. There may be a new, standalone GTA game coming, but it's not going to be GTA V. Grand Theft Auto games tend to only be affixed with Roman numerals when everything about them is overhauled. Think of the difference between GTA III and GTA IV. I think it's more likely that RockStar will continue its current scheme of releasing episodic content as DLC, then later combining the DLC into standalone games. If that's the case, I think we'll see another downloadable episode during Christmas in 2010.
What do you think? Any prediction for when the next, true, GTA game will come out?

first of all, are these episodes on ps3? its funny how playstation had the exclusive, now microsoft gets the extras....
also im hoping for some european city aka london....i know that game came out a few years ago(driver or something_, but if rockstar went there, it should obviously be better
they already did the italian, black, and now russian, so maybe indian? LMAO
yeah but like that guy said...less is definitely more...just make sure the details are impeccable..

I'd like a new "Bully" first....perhaps that's just me...
But yeah...I also think they'll hold off on the GTA V name and instead do some more spin-offs...
and there's still plenty of GTA IV plotlines that are hanging out there...we may be climbing back into nico's shoes before too long....perhaps not...but again...the option is hanging there...
they dropped quite a bit of the refinements they had with the previous set....I'd like to see them gradually bring some of those features back within the new structure...the jump from san andreas to GTA IV had me wondering what happened to all those extra things...even the psp games expanded on those themes...I figured GTA IV would too and yet it didn't....-shrugs-

If anyone from R* is reading these forums (doubtful), PLEASE make another game in either Vice City or San Andreas!!
Jominicano
they should make a carribean style one like the scarface video game they could make alot of missions in the all the countrys there so theres defenitly ganna be some drug smugling

I would like to see GTA V take place in New Orleans, It has a lot of water around it, just like Vice City did. And the NO definitely seems like a place where some stuff can go down. They could even put a Stephen Seagal being a police officer reference in there

I think GTA V will take place in Detroit/Washington D.C./and maybe either Philadelphia or Cleveland.

i want to see rockstar remaster san andreas for this gen systems! if sony can do it with the god of war games then rockstar should do it to tide us over until the next game comes out. i thought san andreas was the best gta game, when gtaIV came out rockstar forgot that it was supposed to be a parody and not a tragedy. hey rockstar, just make sure to offer it in disc form so i can truly own it! dlc my a$$! @stephen johnson: you have the contacts, whats the possibility?

I don't know if I'd like to see another setting other than America, for the sole fact that I love how Lazlo (the man partly behind the humor of GTA IV, and also the host of "Integrity 2.0" in GTA IV) makes fun of America. For example: the radio station WKTT and the TV show "Republican Space Rangers". You guys may not agree, but I'd hate to see it become some ultra-serious series, though I don't see that happening if they still have Lazlo on the team.
I mean, I'd LIKE to see a different setting, though I'm afraid the series would lose some of its humor, (as in the humor on the in-game Internet, the TV, radio, etc). That's just me.
As for GTA IV DLC coming to PS3... It's very unlikely because of the amount Microsoft payed Rockstar. Maybe the future episodic content (if any), but not the Lost and Damned or Ballad of Gay Tony.

Bombshell: San Andreas sucked...

I think we'll probably see a new GTA no sooner than 2011, hope it will be a remake of Vice City with missions taking place in Liberty City and Vice City. If that happens I don't think it will fit on the DVD 9 format that the Xbox 360 uses. Might fit on Blu-Ray. So GTA V might be PS3 and PC only, unless somehow Microsoft works it so the entire game has to be installed from multiple discs and played from the 360's hard drive.

ITs too early to release a new GTA V, if you did that means you rushed it and it will fall very short of the standard that you set with GTA IV, if they are working on one keep working on it for atleast another year of two, earliest a new GTA V should come out is early 2012 or holiday 2011
Scottydsntknow
it's coming, my friend who is a beta tester has already played it, he couldn't give me details though...

I think V is a few years off. The only games I see coming are DLCs for about 1-2 more years since they just finished up the Episodes from Liberty City. There still could be Episodes from Vice and San Andreas, and if they continue to just release 2 DLCs a year and no real new game in numerical order this will take us up to the end of 2011. Then they will take another year at lest if not more to build V from the ground up bringing us to late 2012 to mid 2013. And lets not forget they could always announce it like Square did with FFXII a year or more before release and/or keep pushing it back like the industry is so good at these days.

I'd also love a European setting for this game. London would be awesome (no language barrier, and big enough to make another colossal game)
They could also go back in time again, this time to the sixties or seventies...
That being said, I'm thinking they would choose another american city. I can think of some that would look great with GTA's general athmosphere. I'd really like to see something like New Orleans. Bur I'm also thinking 2010 is too soon. I mean, we haven't heard of anything in development, right? Or have I just missed something? 2011 seems more reasonable.
Plasma_Cake
They should make it that you can go to different cities in different countries maybe like one time you can be New York/California and then you can go to London, then go to Paris, then Toronto, then Sydney, and then Tokyo .. get what I'm saying?
Plasma_Cake
I think the next GTA will come out in 2011 or 2012 more likely 2012.
CALiiGeDDon
put the tanks and jets back in, have some sort of airplane fighting mode also. remake the san andreas map since that map is huge and i know most all of that map...at least i used to lol.
Redd75
I'd rather see R* revisit Vice City (and then San Andreas) the same way they did w/ Liberty City. I enjoyed the 'rags to riches' story progression more than the 'rags to slighty better rags' of GTAIV. Let's subtract the girlfriends/relationships, and add more planes, choppers and tanks. Who knows though, maybe 'The Agent' will sate some of that hunger...

I want DLC for PS3. :(
...Do you think all this DLC will ever come to the PS3??
gambit1023
Personally I think it's kind of sad that Rockstar is only releasing both the DLC and Fat Tony games for the 360 considering it was Sony that helped push them to the forefront of gaming with the release of Vice City being a PS2 exclusive originally. Way to turn your backs to the folks that made you who you are today Rockstar.
