It's hardly a secret that I have a near-terrifying obsession with soccer, and have for years. While most of the (coughThrowegg fanscough) Feed readers enjoy taunting Billy Berghammer's undying love for the Packers, I manage to dodge several bullets shot at my favorite clubs. So it should come as little surprise that whether it's FIFA or Pro Evolution Soccer, I'm usually the first one in the demo room, and the last one to leave. Konami brought by a playable build (80% complete) of Pro Evolution Soccer 2010 for me to sample a few days back, and it's not as Messi as its predecessors (hi-hat). Seriously, it could be the first PES of this console generation to really step it up.

Here's a glimpse at my first hands-on with PES 2010.

Footy fans of the Feed, what's your favorite series? Are you going with PES 2010 or FIFA 10 this year? And why?

For starters, if licensing is your issue, I suggest googling 'PES option file".
I have played football since I was 4, and generally at a decent, sometimes semi-professional level. I had every FIFA game until Konami came out with Pro Evo series in 2000 and have not looked back since. FIFA have only caught up in the last 2/3 yrs, oddly enough by mimicking PES. Konami's games have always seemed much more tangible- to most footballers it is the intelligent choice tactically and intuitively, FIFA being much more arcadey and pick up n play. To this day I can walk in and beat any enthusiastic buzzword-spouting EA rep first go, but each begged-for Pro Evo takes weeks of sequestered adjustment before I take on an RL opponent. The ball on FIFA still doesnt feel real, and the 'official licensed product' rubbish has always been a gimmick, never more so than today with more and more teams each year appearing in full glory on Pro Evo.
Damn the Man- Pro Evo doesnt demand you own a Mastercard to purchase World Cup tickets!

the only reason fifa bought the license out for futboll teams is cuz there scared of PES and also you can get the edit version of PES where all the kits are done right... oh for Zechs if you actually put it on the professional setting it actually pretty hard to play as in fifa hardest ive beaten great teams with the worst teams.

The only reason I hate FIFA games, is because they don't include team from other countries. It always the well known teams (Brazil, Argentina, Mexico and all of Europe.) In PES, they include mostly everyone (Peru, Chile, Paraguay, Uruguay, Venezuela etc...). I do perfer the control setting of FIFA though.

yea fifa is the way to go when it comes to soccer games. ive played both pes 09 and fifa 09 and fifa is by far better. The game play is more realistic and u actually have to try when you play unlike pes where anyone can use one player and bring him from your net to his with little effort.... with fifa you use a little something called passing and teamwork unlike pes. Pes is horrible dont even bother with it.

    FIFA's Manager Mode > PES's Master League

Official Team Licenses (The authentic kits matter...especially as an Arsenal fan: North London does NOT cut it).

I also appreciate the EA is tweaking '09 and fixing the small things that need fixing while leaving everything else the same.

Unlike Madden, PES's presence has pushed EA to take FIFA to awesome heights over the last couple of years. Definitely picking up FIFA on 10/20.

I thought the Packers WERE a soccer team?

Whatever sport their playing, it doesn't look like (american) football.

I'm not going to lie but I actually like PES 09 more than Fifa 09, to me PES is just more user friendly. But at the same time, I think they both need to work on AI issues, PES more than Fifa, but still. I find that when I am playing the game my defenders lack, and my through balls...lets just say don't go through as much as I would like. Chelsea FTW!!
