A while back, Square Enix said that it didn’t have plans to release downloadable content for its highly anticipated Final Fantasy XIII, because such a move would suggest that the game wasn’t completed at launch. Well, according to RPGSite (via VG247), Square has apparently changed its perspective on DLC, or at least the prospect of DLC, for its upcoming RPG.
However, as FFXIII Producer Yoshinori Kitase explains, the DLC won’t be used to expand the game’s story, but rather will simply offer new gameplay opportunities.
“We are exploring the option of downloadable content, perhaps adding new areas, items or enemies, but these would not be expansions to the story, only the gameplay. The entire story of FFXIII will be on the disc.”
Anyone have any strong feelings for or against DLC for Final Fantasy XIII? Would you prefer it to be story-based, or is gameplay-only the way to go?

I never thought SE one to jump on the DLC bandwagon, but this is just milking us.
I bet the DLC will include the best sword or summon or something, just to screw all us reasonable people who won't buy it.

It sounds like a good idea to me. Lets just hope the storyline holds up as well as it did for FF6 through X.

Uh when did DLC start getting categorized? This is what gamers SHOULD NOT want. If a developer is adding DLC it better contribute something to the game. Gameplay DLC in terms of what he described sounds like the mini games that should be included anyhow. Gameplay DLC that adds a dungeon or some area is dumb. What is the incentive of going there IF there is no story connection at all. It sounds like it would just be tacked on which is a waste. I think that this sounds kinda gimmicky like the RE5 stuff. So then what would the Story DLC he implies entail? A character bio, or another conversation with so and so, a special handshake between characters? I do not think that we as gamers should allow developers to think that they can take the substance out of the additional content (especially for X amount of dollars that we are gonna pay on top of the initial game price). I would like my DLC to contain CONTENT as that is what the name implies I am getting.
Also make the level cap over 100. Try 255 like Star Ocean. It was a welcome surprise. The first time my level passed 100 I was confused. I didnt grasp that there was actually gonna be more to do while I finished the last 20+ hrs of the main story.

I think adding gameplay DLC might be great. Final Fantasy games will always be very heavily story based. I am fine with that, as they have great stories, but adding more gameplay ability would not hurt at all, especially since XIII has a pretty cool looking gameplay system. Also, it would help with those (like me) that need to level up for bosses or to get to Lv.100. Gameplay DLC is not a bad idea and would help balance out the game, I think.

"The 360 is an RPG base"?? Someone has been smoking too much crack. The 360 is pretty much FPS. That aside I fully agree with Square's Position on this. When I buy a game, it is like buying a book. I want to buy the whole story, not pay 20$ for each individual chapter. Now if they were to come up with enough to justify the equivalent of a whole new novel that's a different story.

SquareEnix should really add the the vs mode on the 360. The 360 has more of an rpg base than the PS3 so why wouldn't they. I know the blueray on ps3 holds more data than the 360 format, that is no reason to bash the 360. From a business standpoint Square would be stupid not to have something worthwhile the Xbox population could download.

Well, DLC's all fine and all as long as it's really just extra stuff. I mean, if you put int DLC that let you change Lightning's clothes, that's all cool, but if you put in DLC that let you freaking change the way you play, that'd really piss people off -- myself included.

As long as the game is still fun with trophies, I'll still buy the damn DLC.

it all depends. adding new areas, weapons and enemies or even side quests sounds cool but to what end. its not like its WOW or another RPG that has no real ending to the game play. it just seems like they are trying to pump more money out of people. if the game had a PvP aspect it would make sense but it sounds too gimmicky. we'll have to wait an see i guess. i am big fan of downloadable content but honestly i haven't seen much that was worth it. even with the street fighter costumes or the gta 4 DLC i wasn't really impressed, it all seem like they just want more money on top of a 50 or 60 dollar price tag.

Maybe they will have DLC that returns final fantasy to a fantasy game as opposed to a scifi rpg
guillermo316
maybe they can revie sareith in this game!

Well Gameplay DLC will be fine with me. Of course if throughout the game I find myself having questions about some of the characters pasts or random encounter characters it would be nice to have mini stories told throughout the DLC.

If there is no story, I don't think it will sell. The only reason I killed all those thousands of creatures (most that were arguably innocent and minding their own business) was to get the rest of the story. Playing blitzball and racing chocobos never interested me. How many people actually bother to level up their character to the ridiculous amount needed to defeat the biggest esper and complete all the hunting missions? Having that extra stuff available really adds atmosphere to the game, but I wouldn't buy it as DLC.
drangel_jam
DLC doesn't bother me as long as it adds to an already remarkable and complete, cost a reasonable price, and is substantial.
Best example of DLC: Fallout 3, GTA4, Tomb Raider Legend/Anniversary
Worst: Resident Evil 5 ('nough said), shooting games that sell three to four maps for $10 dollars., Mass Effect--nobody cares about late DLC that doesn't add anything special to the game itself.

as long as the 360 fanboys dont get there hands on versus im fine with it suck xbox
bonemantour
DLC should be weapons for story mode i mean force unleased has it DLC for there story so we should have weapons like on assassin's creed 2 do for there bloodline game so we should have it to make the story longer everyone likes it when storys are longer
NakedSnake14
That could still be good even though it is not Story DLC.

Uuuuugh, maybe if they Ahhhhh, include some, uuuuhhh, costume change ahhhh abilities, mmmm, with sephiroth AHHHHHHH then that would satiate the unghhhhhhh AHHHHHH I LOVE YOU SEPHIROTH *SPLOOOGE* FFVII fanboyism. Me personally, I'd settle for a new FF Tactics.

haha, "the complete game will be on one [PS3] disc" but three 360 discs!" sorry but the article provoked me to do it!!
