Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2

Disney buying Marvel is one of the most enormous deals in nerd history. It's just huge! With repercussions in games, movies, television, cartoons, comics, cereal, Underoos , and more, this deal touches practically every facet of geek culture. If it's huge for people like you and me, can you imagine what's going through the minds of Marvel creators? Here are some choice Twitter posts from some of Marvel's merriest:

Joe Quesada (Marvel EIC): G' morning, Marvel U! Welcome to this moment in history. Everyone relax, this is incredible news and all is well in the Marvel U.

Joe Quesada: Everybody take a deep breath, all your favorite comics remain unchanged and Tom Brevoort remains grouchy.

Frank Tieri: (Punisher Noir, Wolverine): Yeah, Disney's gonna love me.

Warren Ellis: (Thunderbolts, G.I. Joe: Resolute): Why is everyone at Marvel making quacking noises today? It's horrible.

Warren Ellis: so I got this phone call from Joe Quesada and it was just the sound of him rubbing himself with money and now I am confused

Brian Reed: (New Avenger: Illuminati, Mercenaries 2): "Face it, Tigger, you hit the jackpot!" #disneybuysmarvel

Brian Reed: All joking aside, the whole Disney/Marvel thing is pretty crazy exciting.

Like I said before, the deal is enormous. I can't wait to find out what other comic-book writers and artists are thinking. Check back for another update later today! And also, excelsior!!! And also (also), Disney should let Wolverine and Quasar appear in Kingdom Hearts 3!

I think some people are overreacting and forgetting that Disney is a HUGE company. Not everything they do is Mickey Mouse. Disney owns Miramax Films btw and they have put out movies by Quentin Tarantino and Kevin Smith with all the violence and vulgarity intact.

Let's save the angry outcry for when something really bad happens.

My biggest fear is Disney giving in to "groups".

Part of Kevin Smith's "Dogma" changing studios was due to Christian groups protesting of it.

And this may sound like an odd example, but have any of you heard of the 'Disney version' of ICP's "Great Milenko". Due to an out-pouring of parent group types, the album was pulled and re-released with three tracks missing due to graphic content.

I agree with the KickAss comment above me. What happens the next time Deadpool beheads half a dozen guys? Once people know that Disney is "behind" it, protests will go nuts. Because, let's face it, folks love to protest Disney. And Disney loves to buckle.

Wow...I think Raymond needs to realize that when I said Namor will fight Ursala over the little mermaid I was making an over-exaggerated example. The point is that if you really believe that this won't change anything on the Marvel side of things then you are the one that needs help. I love Pixar/Disney, I love Marvel. Monetarily this may have been the best possible move. $4 billion is a lot of money, Marvel won't have to worry about money if the comic industry goes through another slump like it did in the 90's, and yes that means a lot more backing for movies and other projects. However, from a creative standpoint their souls have been sold. Comics like "KICKASS" probably won't kickass. The changes may sell just as many, maybe more then before, but at the price of compromising. Disney is trying to reach out to a bigger crowd which means that not only are they getting the Marvel crowd but they will make changes to try to bring the Marvel crowd to Disney. So say what you want Raymond Padilla but I'm a comic store owner that knows his customers, I know I'm speaking from a perspective that you don't have, I don't need the help you suggested, do you?

Another reason for me to hate Disney. Living in Orlando, that's not hard. Especially after they cancel my favorite band at the House of Blues because they don't attract the right kind of fanbase or some crap like that. But that's a different story.

As I said, I live in Orlando and hate Disney (and as I didn't say, I don't read comic books), so for me, the most significant part of this deal is the effect it will have on Islands of Adventure. They have a whole Marvel Island there with a whole freaking roller coaster called The Incredible Hulk! What's going to happen to that?! And Dr. Doom's Fear Fall and whatever the Spiderman ride is called - they are very fun rides (Spiderman not so much as the former two). Other than that, the only affect I can see this having (from my perspective, mind you) is that the movies will suck more.

Not knocking those movies, there is still difference between those and the way a movie about a Marvel character should be.

Capcom needs to make a Marvel Vs. Disney game now. I'd like to open a good old fashioned can of whoop-ass on Mickey as The Hulk.

some of you have got to be some of the most uninformed commenters ever. yes disney is the land of mickey and kid friendly animation. BUT everything at is not "for kids". have you heard of ESPN, TRON, PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN, REMEMBER THE TITANS, THE ROOKIE, NATIONAL TREASURE, GLORY ROAD, INVINCIBLE, TRON LEGACY, TIM'S BURTON ALICE IN WONDERLAND, OR PRINCE OF PERSIA??? not everything is a cartoon. and if it was a cartoon, perhaps you could put out a few marvel/ pixar movies. don't act like you wouldn't watch those. STOP LYING TO YOURSELVES. THIS IS A GOOD THING.

Disney is good at what they do, so is marvel. Disney gave us fond memories of boys who could fly and didn't want to grow up, wizards that would help a young boy become the king of England, and the reverse side of what it's like to be the monster in the closet. Marvel on the other hand gave us rampaging hulks, norse gods, timeless evil villains, and the worlds most badarse anti-hero. both are great on their own, but i guarantee Marvel will get the short end of the deal here because Disney is buying them out which means when changes come, and they will, Marvel will have to take it from Disney.

I don't hate Disney. They are generally good at what they do. However this merger is a bad idea. Walt Disney created great childhood memories of magical puppets finding out what is really important and how even the most lowly of servants can become the king of England by keeping to his morals and believing in himself. On the flip side Lee and Kirby created their own forms of memories. Their's involved rampaging hulks, evil masterminds with plots that took us to all corners of the universe and beyond, death, revenge, blood, and sex. It's like the Beatles and the Foo Fighters. It was amazing to see Paul and Dave rock out together for a crossover, but they should remain their own individual talents.

What is up with all the irrational hatred of Disney, go to Disney World and you will see that you are in the very small minority.

As a comic store owner this is going to suck. I have loved Marvel for years with the exception of selling digital comics. They say Disney won't change things.....WHO IS GULLIBLE ENOUGH TO BELIEVE THAT?!?!? It will start out all innocent... a minor tweak here, Disney billboards in the background of the comics there, then the next thing you know Namor is fighting Ursala over the little mermaid!! This makes me realize that this deal has been in the works for a longtime. Why else would Disney have started showing the old Marvel cartoons? Between Disney and the government they will own everything in next few years! Jack Kirby would be disgraced at what is happening, and I'm willing to bet that Stan Lee is having trouble with this as well wether he will admit it or not.

4 billion to buy Marvel but Disney wont adapted this year's Super Sentai for next years Power Rangers. But Marvel fans you get to have Power Ranger Comics now.

This is a weird merger indeed. Im more of a DC buff, so i really don't care about Marvel at all. The only characters ive ever liked from there were Captain America & Punisher.

Im more intrigued as to what will happen to Universal's Islands of Adventure. Will they have to remove their Marvel Super Hero Island since they are not part of Disney or will they keep it and have to now pay royalties to their main competitor, which is Disney. This is bizarre indeed.

I'm still not sure about that merger... I just hope Marvel didnt sell it's soul just for the money.

This makes me very nervous about the future of Marvel movies. I mean Wolverine:Origins was pretty craptacular and Marvel screwed that up on their own. Lord only knows how "The Mouse" will effect future projects.

From a money and support standpoint, it's great for Marvel. They will have a ton of new resources and opportunities they may not have been able to do on their own previously.

However, if Disney is smart (and they are) they should know to not F with anything. Just let Marvel do what they do and collect the checks.

Does anyone know how long this deal had been in the making?
