Just in case you didn't know, the PlayStation 3 Slim is available now. You've all seen photos of the PS3 Slim's outside. Now the fine folks at iFixit have exposed the PS3's innards. While many of you are debating on the console's looks, its insides are pretty impressive. The system has been engineered for excellent airflow and heat dissipation. It looks like it's an effective design, but only time and real-world use can say for sure.
At the centerpiece of the cooling scheme is a 95mm fan that iFixit calls "the largest fan we've come across in a consumer electronics device of this size". The fan has 17 blades, so if your PS3 Slim breaks down, at least you have a cool ninja weapon. You know what? I think I'm going to get a PS3 Slim so I can throw the fan at Leahy. Excuse me, I'm heading over to Best Buy.
What do you think of the PS3 Slim's insides? Impressed? Indifferent? Horny? Leave a comment and let me know (please!)

I had a older ps3 before but i didn't like it because it ws too slow and by the time the game finally loaded i could already be playing a game on my 360.
I'm not saying the ps3 is a bad system maybe the one i had didn't work ight but i did like the games and some of the features are better then the 360 but still the only way i will buy it is if its faster and all th bugs are worked out. wish i could say that for my 60 but that will never happen. And does anyone agree with me that sony needs to step up there game by get more exclusive games cause right now the 360 has more then sony does.

its funny how people like darkcloud20 likes to post comments just to start a fanboy name calling game
but on this topic maybe the achievement idea was stolen but not everbody likes it even for 360 users
maybe the 360 SHOULD copy the ps3 so it wouldnt have soo many faild systems

"They always take notes, that's how they in business.... ripping off other designs.... but fail in the quality control department."
Kinda like how Sony stole Microsoft's achievement idea?
And I'm actually stumped on that comment. Can you name one thing Microsoft stole from Sony?
And before the "fan boy" comments start rolling in:
I own a PS3 (sort of).

I HAVE played PSOne games on my PS3. And if you need more USB ports, grab a stupid USB Hub and plug it into one of the PS3 ports and Rock On!! I'm still happy with my original PS3 60gig purchase, and for all the X-Bots. It still works on its original incarnation!!!

If it performs as good as it's bigger brother than I would DEFINITELY slim down my ps3 I just hope that fan isn't to loud :D
Jizmack
Yea it plays Ps1 games, Xbox can't compare anything to that.

I also paid double for my xbox360... should I expect less now that its $299 for what use to be an elite? The answer is no. The original PS3 gave gamers an idea of what to expect from the system. Sony didnt just reduce the size but they reduced the functionality. The backward compatibility was a major selling point for me getting a PS3... that and bluray. The price for the hardware was going to go down regardless of wheather Sony kept or removed the BC feature. So your statement is kinda pointless Ray. When Sony reduced the PS3s abilities to reduce cost it shafted all of us who paid a premium for the system. Microsoft didnt do that.. they reduced cost and the price and added more functionality instead of taking it away. I like to collect the games I buy and play it again later in life. Hell my old Dreamcast is still holding on strong after more than 10 years... so is my genesis. Why can I repurchase a game via DLC and play it on my PS3 but I cant play the original disc... doesnt make any sense if you ask me. I am glad to see Sony back in the fight at a lower price point but they killed my joy with lack of BC.

I would have to disagree. I rely on my PS3's backward compatibility because I totally skipped PSX and PS2 but always wanted to play some of those games. It occupied my time while developers got their crap together with developing on the PS3 platform. I for one want the backward compatibility back in case my current PS3 fails. I have now invested money on the older platform based on the capabilities of the new platform. It was a shaft to the consumer for Sony to take away this feature and I dont want to get a PS2 just to make up for it. Give me what I paid for... I paid for backward compatibility and I expect it if I have to replace my original unit.

So appearently I was wrong about it pretty much not having a fan... I opened one up the other day and I didnt hear anything running at all. the fan is completely silent and cant be felt running either
Zmeeds
nice fan, maybe sony could make some dough by selling some to microsoft to bring that failure rate down from 54%

Why are you guys still bitching about BC... With all the bad a$$ games for the PS3 that is out now, why not play your ps2 games on your.... PS2!!! I have an 80 gb (MGS Bundle) so I dont have that problem, but I really just use it to play my PS3 games any way. You should get a next gen system to play next gen games, not to be stuck in the past.

Even when its broken up it beautiful

which i better ps3 slim 120 or ps3 160 ?
squarenix8
why is everyone pissing their pants over not having PS2 backwards compatability. Just go play them on your PS2, its not that big of a deal.

I think the chances of anyone caring for or buying the PS3 are slim!
