Final Fantasy VII fans have been clamoring for Square Enix to remake the game. While gamers have had to make due with spin-off sequels, prequels, phone games, anime, and movies about FFVII, it's not quite the same. There are millions of gamers that would kill for a remake. According to Square Enix's Yoshinori Kitase and Motomu Toriyama, the idea has been discussed, but not officially acted on. Through a translator they told VG247:
"There’s no official project that’s up and running for a remake of Final Fantasy VII at this point. Both Toriyama-san and Kitase-san were involved in the development of the game, however, and it holds a special place in their hearts. They do talk about it on a personal level, like, ‘If we did it it would be like this or like that.’
So, they do talk about it, but there’s no official project yet. But there’s that PSN release that just came out, so if you could play that for the time being, it should be fun."
A few things here -- first of all, I don't believe them. I think they're trying to be cute and coy. A Final Fantasy VII remake would be enormous and sell millions of copies. Unless Square has suddenly developed an aversion to money, I refuse to believe this project isn't being planned. From a business standpoint, it would be stupid not to do it.
Secondly, I'm surprised it hasn't come out yet. It seemed like a brilliant idea for 2007, when the original game celebrated its ten-year anniversary. A lot of gamers would have been happy to give up the PS2 adventures of Vincent Valentine and the mobile adventures of The Turks if it meant devoting resources to an FFVII anniversary project. Oh well, maybe it'll come out for the game's 15-year anniversary?
Any thoughts on what Kitase and Toriyama had to say? Do you believe that "there's no official project yet"? Or is Square Enix simply waiting to surprise gamers?

They should get off there butts and make already! I Played final Fantasy VII When I Could First read and handle a controll. It was the first game I have ever play and i wish they would remake it already!!!!!!!

I believe that if there will never be a FF7 remake, Sephiroth will kill an innocent kitten. That is blood that none of us want on our hands. Square-Enix does not want this blood on their hands! I believe that they will do the right thing. Same music, better graphics in HD, random battles, and for the love of GOD, no kittens! Please!

A FF7 remake would be explosive! It's so plainly obvious that EVERYONE (pretty dang much) wants a remake. I love the original, but honestly I adore good graphics too (yay FF13) and FF7 for the PS just doesn't quench my hunger for them. It's a childhood classic, and I love the spin-offs. But, there comes a point that you just can't wait any longer!
I believe the developers are lying so when they finally do release it, it'll be a hit and such a surprise. Wouldn't be shocked if a few die-hard fans (such as myself) would have a heart attack. Come on now Square Enix, get your head in the game. Now that FF13 series are practically out, maybe you should focus your attention on what the FF fans have been craving for years! FF7 for xbox 360 and PS3 REMAKE!!!

i think i can reason with the two of them this is very personal for them i mean what if they mess it up by making a remake fans would just leave the whole thing out to dry....i think live and let live really

OMFG~! A remake would make me cry~!!!! XD But I hope they're as picky as I'd be about the remake -- Nobuo would HAVE to do the music (no offense, Yoko Shimomura, but I LOVE him~ XD) -- pretty much everything the exact same, just better graphics and sounds~ X3

i've gotta say they are slowly trickling out rereleases of ALL of the final fantasy games so far. i just hope that they make the jump from handhelds when they remake final fantasy VI. i just want to see all of the epic moments come to life in HD.
but to get back on point, of course they are going to rerelease it for the ps3. it's ridiculous to think anything otherwise.

no remake, just continue the story after Advent Children would work too.....This game got many,MANY people into Jrpg's and was the ONE that got me into rpg's but if they remake it......I'll have to get me a PS3 STAT!!!

I'd love it. It's my favorite game of all time. When they showed that tech demo for the ps3 using the beginning sequence to FFVI I was so excited I lost control of my bowels.

Only if it's on the PS3..so it can be the best possible remake they could do.

I don't know why this is such a big thing for most people. I loved FF7 (at the time) because it was the first and (and really only) good RPG option on the PS1 (aside from Wild Arms). But looking back it isn't that great of a game. Xenogears is still the best square RPG on that system by far anyways. I would personally love new IP's from Square more than anything else than milking a mediocre universe.
Besides if they are going to remake an FF...FF6 is the way to go. I think everyone would love to see an HD rendition of the epic ending battle with Kefka

If they aren't then Square-Enix is run by a gang of braindead coma patients handcuffed to the wall with tape over their mouths and blindfolds on with LOUD Techno playing from a large Sony Boom Box.
The re-visited version of Final Fantasy VII is going to be absolutely insane. VISUALLY. We already know that the game in itself is incredible story wise and playability. All I have to say is "Materia".

Well with the announcement of FFXIV being another MMO, its safe to say that they have plenty of time before unveiling FFXV. They'll most likely work on finishing the Kingdom Hearts series first before starting and remakes. And they also got the rest of the FFXIII series to finish and that will take a few more years down the road.

Maybe they'll pull another fast one like the FFXIV announcement at E3, and spill the beans at the Tokyo Game Show next month. There would definitely be more salivating Japanese fanboys that will literally cry tears of joy from the announcement. Although I will believe none of this talk until it is charged to my card and in my hands!

I would prefer 8 seeing its my favorite, but a 7 remake would be awesome. Possibly lead to a FF8 remake? (Hell no its not gonna happen, but I can dream.)
