Grand Theft Auto Chinatown Wars PSP CoverAccording to Rockstar Games' twitter feed, Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars for the PlayStation Portable will be available on October 20th. The company promises "first screens and more coming soon."

When those screens and more are revealed, we'll get you the news right away.

The Nintendo DS version of Chinatown Wars was critically lauded (93% on Game Rankings) but didn't sell as well as many had expected... do you think the PSP version will meet the same fate? Or is the install base of PSP users a difference crowd than Nintendo DS users? Let us know in the comment section bellow!

I agree with most of what everyone is saying. The Nintendo DS has never really sold games to a more mature audience and I doubt that it ever will. Sony has always tried to appeal to an older crowd of gamers. Sony's average user age range is from the years of 18-25. Nintendo's average user age range is from 5-15. There is a clear difference here. I believe Rockstar Games went for the Nintendo DS this time around was purely because of how many people have them. I don't think that they looked at the audience of each hand-held. That's their only flaw with this game, they purely just released it for the wrong console. I know for a fact that quality is not an issue, because Rockstar Games blows sandbox gameplay mechanics and story out of the water with every release. The PSP version with definitely be downloaded to my PSP Go. I might even pick up a UMD copy for my PSP 2001.

As far as i can remember Nintendo has never really pushed M-rated games like eternal darkness which was a beautifully made game. companies like Sony and Microsoft have always push mature games knowing that they will sell well like gears of war and god of war. which makes me think why hasn't Nintendo tapped into that market. considering that more people over the age of 16 buy games. it also seem like its becoming more of a disney like company instead of a game company now a days

Most people with DS's are mostly younger kids. And the Grand theft auto's on psp sold pretty well. And advertiseing wouldn't help.

They should have released it on the PSP the first time around. If you thought the DS was the perfect handheld console then you was dropped on your head. The reason I say that is because the DS doesnt have any hardcore fans or hardcore games.

Chinatown Wars would have sold a lot better if it was on the PSP instead of the DS. I'll get this game when it comes out for the PSP.

Earlier in the spring I was actually thinking about getting a used DS just for this game. Thank God I didn't. I've heard nothing but good things about this game, so after I see those screens and more info, we'll see...

Hopefully I'll get a chance to see it soon, and I hope Rockstar has retained the style and mission layout of the DS game.

Dunno how many of you guys played it, but it's one of the best games to come out on the DS this year, if not in the past two years.

That's mainly b/c it took the best parts of GTA4 (taxi system, GPS) and made them all bite-sized. I loved "Liberty City Stories," ("Vice City Stories" lost to "MGS: Portable Ops" when it came to PSP playtime) but God forbid you played them anywhere but a long flight or at home. The mission structure was really long, which is great for PS2, bad for a quick commute.

If Rockstar keeps the structure of the DS game, I bet they'll have a winner.

I think Rockstar should focus on console games.

I think the reason they made a PSP version is because the DS version sold like crap. And that is a damn shame. It was a fantastic game that packed absolutely everything you love about GTA, and a boat load more, onto that little DS Card.

It was obvious GTA wouldn't sell well on a handheld system who's best selling games test your mind and reflexes. Thats like putting God of War on the Wii (although i gotta admit, you being able to swing Kratos' blades around as if it were you would be pretty awesome), sorry bad example but you get my idea. I haven't played GTA CW on the DS but i can image the controls would just be wierd. I mean do you slash your stylus across the screen to beat the crap out of a hooker who took your money?

Anyways i don't think the PSP version will have the same fate at all. These GTA "mini-stories" are great for a "mini-system".

Now if we can just get Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas Stories.

What kept me from buying the original one was because it's camera was in bird eye view mode, and I was disappointed with GTA4 (didn't have as much fun with it, but I'll say it has the best story)

Liberty City Stories and Vice City Stories combined have sold over ten million copies worldwide... I think Chinatown Wars will do just fine on the PSP.

They should have done this in the beginning, why would a M-rated game sell well on the DS?
