After much rumor mongering, the latest World of Warcraft expansion pack is finally official. Titled Cataclysm, Blizzard is promising some pretty major changes to the World of Warcraft landscape. The once-defeated dragon Deathwing has risen from the ashes and wrecked destruction upon the world, fundamentally changing the environment gamers have come to known and love permanently.
Brian Leahy broke the news earlier today when it was announced at BlizzCon 2009, but Blizzard's press release has some more details on the new features in Cataclysm:
- Two New Playable Races: Adventure as the cursed worgen with the Alliance or the resourceful goblins with the Horde.
- Increased Level Cap: Advance to level 85 and earn new abilities, tap into new talents, and progress through the path system, a new way for players to customize characters.
- Classic Zones Remade: Quest to level 60 as you never have before. Familiar zones across the original continents of Kalimdor and the Eastern Kingdoms have been reforged by the cataclysm and updated with new quests and content.
- Flying Mounts in Azeroth: Explore Kalimdor and the Eastern Kingdoms from a whole new perspective.
- Guild Advancement: Progress as a guild to earn guild levels and guild achievements.
- New High-Level Content: Explore newly opened parts of the world, including Uldum, Grim Batol, and the great sunken city of Vashj'ir beneath the sea, and enjoy even more high-level raid content than in previous expansions.
- New PvP Zone & Rated Battlegrounds: Take on PvP objectives and daily quests on Tol Barad Island, a new Wintergrasp-like zone, and wage war in all-new rated Battlegrounds.
- Archaeology: Master a new secondary profession to unearth valuable artifacts and earn unique rewards.
- New Race and Class Combinations: Explore Azeroth as a gnome priest, blood elf warrior, or one of the other never-before-available race and class combinations.

props to WoW and all, i mean whatever is popular, but once again I see them stealing ideas from other MMO's that had great ideas, but not the budget to stomp out competition. Specifically the guild levels and from what i understand, open Pvp battlegrounds. I cancelled warhammer about 2 months ago, and Its pretty clear its where those came from. Can't think of the last expansions "features" but I have to agree with the nay sayers...It seems like blizz ran out of ideas awhile ago, and Is re-hashing or stealing things now. I really would Like to get Back into a good MMO, and I enjoyed WoW for about a good year right around the burning Crusade release (nothing will beat being chased by those huge green robots in outland! now that was AMAZING!) but unfortunetly, most MMO's are still following a formula that Ultima online started...its time for something new

Hey all power to WOW gamers, but I am WAY!!! more excited for Guild Wars 2. Something that looks that epic and FREE has got my $50, or at most $80 for collectors edition.

OK i just about CRAPPED(no vulgar warning thing cancled it) my pants when i found out about this(not litterally lol) ok this is epic now i have something not a blood elf as a pally horde like a tauren WOOT time for H�lycow WOOT i was joking about that and something like this expasion wit friends for weeks and now what lol........this is EPIC among �BER proportions ok i just cant wait for a release date announcement .......man i loved WoW the original WoW and ive missed it till now.........this is the most Godlly WoW EVER!!!! i cant wait

I play it and I gotta agree with 100PercentTard, This game has been around how long and has had millions of suggestions like this and it takes them to make a new expansion to do that. At least give it some time for the new stuff added in the latest content patch to soak into the game, maybe they should have waited and added that to the new expansion instead of making us sit around for hours on end downloading a patch in the background, and then shortly after tell us "Guess what, were giving you a new expansion after we just did this little upgrade that hasn't had time to set itself in stone".
I am looking forward to getting and playing the new game, so don't get me wrong. I won't be getting right off cuase like everything else that Blizzards releases, after launch of the new content there will be crashes upon crashes, mad little fanboys and those 10 year olds mentioned by 100PercentTard, screaming and crying to blizzard why the game don't work. Plus, why just 85? It better be a long leveling complicated grind to level just 5 more lvls, going from 10 lvls in the last expansion to just 5.... kinda pointless if you really look at it.
All in All I like what Blizzard is able to do to keep this game going, and keep all of us sinking our money into their pockets, for that I congrat you Blizzard.

Wow what a disappointment, all of you Warcraft zombies are so easily entertained by this new expansion when its really just Blizzard being lazy as usual and trying to make even more money than they already do. Omg they added new skins that you can play as, and that took how much effort and does what, relatively nothing. They should add some new classes already, yeah the death knight was cool but everyone has one of them, why not actually produce some new content and give more classes and more variety to what has been the same now for over 4 years except the addition of the death knight.
As far as zones go, they managed to add some new instances and the new starting zones for goblins and worgen, but they instead simply changed zones already in place instead of adding new ones. And then allowing all races to be all the classes, that just defeats the purpose behind strategy and challenge in the game, its as if they actually listened to all the ten year olds on the suggestion forum on their site.
For all the time I spent playing this game a huge complaint of mine was that they simply kept piling on more and more endgame content and never once took the time to maybe just add a new instance for lower levels or change it up so it was more enjoyable leveling an alternate character and not the same boring grind over and over again, but this doesn't fix it.
Then again I really have no say because they already have over 11million dedicated paying players that seem to be purposely satisfied with hitting the same button hundreds of times for multiple hours everyday and truth be told there really isn't anything out there on the market that is better anyway.

Ok so the alliance got a new ballzy race and the horde got midgets.Thats about all i see goin on in this new expansion.I never really found wow to be very good becuz it lacked that addicting feel.Its only fun till lvl 20 then its just like wtf do i do know.So maybe i'll get back into it just to see how good this new stuff will be.

wow wow wow hold on this is awesome but... what if u dont get the exspantion with the others you just could not go to the new places but this changes the whole world u already have does that mean you cant play? or do you get a seperat relm for people with out it?

Wargen are almost cool enough to make me consider playing, but I'll hold out to my original conviction, I'm not willing to play WoW unless I can play as a Dragon :-P

wow...a new WoW expansion idk what to say. i quit playing this game like 2 years ago and then they came out with the lich king and now this. I'm highly tempted to start playing this again but idk. it's kind of lick heroin. once you start it's hard to quit. and once you do they come out with something better. i hate you for this blizzard...at the same time i love you even more. i hope there's some Diablo 3 announcements at Blizzcon
