Fans of Polyphony Digital’s acclaimed racing franchise
Gran Turismo have been waiting for the latest installment,
Gran Turismo 5, for neigh on 28 years now (or so it would seem), and the anticipation and expectations continue to grow by the hour. One of the most talked about aspects of the new game is the inclusion (finally) of car damage.
G4tv.com’s Billy Berghammer snagged some hands-on time with the game at
GamesCom, and sent back his impressions of the much-discussed new damage system. Here's a taste:
“So after I interviewed Yamauchi at this year’s GamesCom yesterday (full interview hitting G4tv.com next week!) and he told me the Gran Tursimo 5 demo on the show floor included damage, I was beyond excited. I’m quite the Gran Turismo fan, so I rushed to the floor to get my hands on the demo. Either something was wrong with this demo or Polyphony is barely finished with the damage model for the game– but I walked away shaking my head.”

No they don't have the rights for NASCAR, but EA has said that they aren't coming out with a NASCAR game this year and NASCAR also said that they want to have more games just with more developers. And so what if Forza had damage 3 years ago, GT hasn't been out in like 5-7 years. And your beloved Forza is the offspring of GT anyways, so bow down to the king of the racing genre.

Damn, I normally don't play racing games, I never played any of the Gran Turismo games on PS1 or PS2, but this game looks too hot to pass, gonna cop it!

Why doesnt someone find out if GT5 will include all of the Sprint Cup Series race tracks and drivers? Does Polyphony(e.g. Sony) own the exclusive rights to NASCAR now? The sooner I know whether or not to expect a NASCAR game on the XBOX 360 any time soon the quicker I will buy a PS3 Slim and GT5 (whenever it comes out).

Forza came out with real car damage three games ago.
Damage your front end and the car pulls to one side.
Damage your engine and your power is less.
Damage your transmission and your shifts take longer.
Other cars on the track took damage as well.
One could go from 3rd to 1st if the top two AI's collide and had to pit for repairs.
I really enjoyed this aspect of the game because it added realism and kept the kids who thought they could bounce off walls to pass on lesser platforms

Oh yeah, I forgot that Grand Turismo 5 will have Rally racing along with NASCAR, day and night cycles, 1,000 cars, and 16 player online mode too. Make way for the King.

A game that isn't finished yet that isn't completely polished, never would a thunk it.

Can you turn the damage off? Hope so. If damage is not optional, I'm not buying it.

only certian cars have damage and there is also rally car racing in the game
mothr101

Grand Turismo 5 is THE definitive racing game with 1,000 cars, day and night cycles, 16 player online mode, and NASCAR all on one disc.
