After the opening ceremony at BlizzCon 2009, CEO Mike Morhaime announced that the StarCraft II beta should start this year when questioned about the test.
The beta hinges on the launch of the new Battle.net, which is set to be revealed later today at BlizzCon.
Whether or not the beta will hit this year is anybody's guess, but the fact that Blizzard is showing off B.net 2.0 today is promising.

Star Craft did have one game but there was also an expansion that was released as well as the figurines, books, and other novelty items which does make it a franchise

well, considering they havent released any new game diablo or starcraft wise in a long time, only WOW is something they could brag about, and for me its nothing to brag about..im just impatiently waiting for diablo 3 and starcraft 2, the 100mil a month they make from WOW should have helped them get the games out the door faster, enough griping..i just hope they release both games early 2010..sick of waiting

for all the crap people (myself included) give Blizzard for WoW, we are all going to be there on release day for this one. They may only have 3 real IPs to speak of right now, but damn, do they do them well.

StarCraft II is going to be great. I cannot wait to see the ending to one of the best and memorial franchises ever.
