It definitely sounds weird to say, but the PlayStation 3 Slim is a reality, and will be hitting shelves in just two weeks. But as Sony Entertainment of America president and CEO Jack Tretton explained during a recent video interview, what's more noteworthy is the time table that Sony has established for the PS3 when compared to previous generations.
"With the original PlayStation and PlayStation 2, we announced revisions of the hardware in the third and fourth year. We're very please that, short of its third birthday, the PlayStation 3 has achieved tremendous milestones, which have allowed us to bring out this new form factor, and pass on those savings to consumers, giving them the opportunity to buy the state-of-the-art gaming system at half the price that it originally debuted at in October 2006."
Sony certainly has positioned itself quite nicely now that the PS3 has finally hit that "sweet spot" of $299. And turning around a redesigned, cheaper model so quickly, especially given Sony's upcoming lineup of killer games, puts Sony in a fantastic position going into the holiday season.
Anyone out there pre-order their PS3 Slim yet?
