I've been waiting for Heavy Rain, Quantic Dream's noir, PlayStation 3 game for grown-ups, since E3 2006, when it was just a tech demo. Now, these many years later, we've finally learned the names of all the game's characters.
At Sony’s GamesCom press conference today, Quantic revealed the last two Heavy Rain protagonists: Ethan Mars, who has only four days to find his son, and Curt Shelby, a detective working on solving the case of the Origami Killer. Mars and Shelby join previously announced characters Norman Jayden (an FBI profiler) and, Madison Paige, a journalist.
Heavy Rain has set its sights high: It's aiming for creating a new kind of game, not based on repetitive patterns and violence. With its unique control scheme, weird thought/action system, thriller plot without supernatural elements, and a story told through a variety of characters, it just might hit the mark. We need more games that try to expand the genre.
But I'm worried, Dear Reader. I'm worried that You, video game aficionado, are not going to purchase this game when it comes out in 2010, and it will be regarded as an interesting experiment that will not be repeated. So I ask you: Check out the below video, think very carefully, and tell me in our comment section whether you plan to buy this game or not.
