According to a recent survey conducted by Game Informer, the Xbox 360...wait for it...breaks a lot. While that shouldn't be a surprise to anyone, it's alarming how often it breaks relative to the competition. From the 5,000 people polled in the survey it was learned that:
"The Xbox 360 breaks five times as often as often as its closest failure-prone competitor, the PlayStation 3, a print edition-only Game Informer survey found.
The poorly manufactured, red ring of death-prone console has a 54.2 percent failure rate, compared to 10.6 percent for the PS3 and the Wii's 6.8 percent."
Keep in mind that the poll's sample size isn't particularly large and, in more general terms, polling methodology can be manipulated for different results. All that said, the numbers are fascinating.
As someone that has had two Xbox 360 failure in Q1 2009, I'm curious to see how many others are suffering through similar problems. Let me know if any of your current-gen consoles have failed and how many times.
