Bionic Commando Developer GRIN Officially Shuts Down

Even though the last few games GRIN produced had trouble connecting with gamers and critics (though I'll hold out a candle for Bionic Commando, if only for its brilliant swinging mechanic), it's always sad when a developer shuts down. In memory, I've collected a screen shot from every game GRIN produced in its eight year history as a company and listed them in chronological order.

These, gamers, were GRIN's creations.

You know, outside of Ballistics, I've not played a single one of their games. Maybe they should have just stuck with Tube Racers...

Given more time I'm sure they would of eventually released a hit if they learned from their past mistakes.

Almost all those games were not fun.

how is it that the designers are not as much to blame as the developer itself? That said, I had no problem with BC, or any number of thier games.I just think maybe thier timing was off, and thier profit margin was off. if its not MMO, Zombie, or WWII based it'll probably fail, unfortunately.

Although I have not played any of the games developed by GRIN, I think it's always a sad occasion when a developer closes. Sure, their games weren't critical and commercial successes, but that's not what matters here. These people spent years of their lives, toiling over computers, trying to make the best games they could make for the gamers. So no matter what you say about their games, all that matters is how hard they worked to make these games for us.

I'm still butt hurt over the whole "Bionic Commando" debacle. Game was built like swiss cheese. I'll sleep better knowing that "Grin" had little to do with "Dark Void".

BTW, G4. Your yellow Norton advert is making me nauseous.

What a shame I liked Wanted, it was one of my guilty pleasure games... I'm hoping we get another GRAW though.

I feel bad for the guys that work there, but then again, they can probably get jobs in other companies. As a developer, I know that it can be hard to realize your vision, even if you have the talent to do it. Under-resourcing, rushing deadlines, creative differences between dev leads, poor management, and a host of other things can bring down the quality of games, and I hate it when people just say "Well the devs just didn't have the talent".

Though some not as much, these games had high profile.

Question is: do we mourn the loss of a developer with moderate success or celebrate the disappearance of a developer that failed to put out consistently good titles?
