Ladies and gentlemen, let's all let Adam Sessler know that we all like melons.

Now that that's over with, this week Adam has been playing through Batman: Arkham Asylum and Shadow Complex, and it reminded him how much he loves games that include exploration. Specifically, games that encourage you to dig deep into their virtual world by rewarding you with perks, special unlockables, and weapons upgrades. You know, like Metroid. So why not take the time to explore Adam's brain and watch this week's Sessler's Soapbox.

That is why I will always enjoy playing games like the Fallout 3's, GTA 4's, and Shadow Complex's, (Complexi, Complexs'). I will always get more out of them than I would out of the Fight Nights or NBA Lives n what not. I enjoy games that shove it in your face and say APPRECIATE ME AND ALL MY HARD WORK.

MMO's is where I draw the line tho. WoW, Guild Wars, dude sorry, but I'm in college and I just don't have THAT much time. haha, not h8in, played the 10 day trial and loved it. :)

The Lotr books dont suck. Tolkein created an entire world and he didn't let other people's rules of novel writing discourage him. They are hard to read and pretty boring in parts but at least I appreciate his dedication

I thought that the "i like melons" line fit for that part, because to me, when you said that, i thought of popping a guy's head open, to what would happen if you shot a melon. in my mind i thought it would pop, like someone's head. (i also thought that ending babble was random and funny too)

i completely agree with you Adam. In gaming, it is not all about beating the game and bragging to your friends about it. Or getting that achievement. What really matters is getting to the next level and seeing what comes next and the experience you get from it. That in itself should be an achievement.

    P.S. I love melon :)

Adam you need to chill, everyone says something stupid once and a while. Hell man it's what makes us human, and if you didn't say stupid/ funny things your viewer ratings might start turning south. So keep on loving the melons and saying funny things about them or any random thing that you think of.

    P.S. Who doesn't love melons?

    Hey Adam,

Everyone loves when you say something stupid and silly. That's why we all love xplay so much. It made it unique and not so serious.

The current iteration of the show lost a lot of that silliness, and became more "serious" and a lot less unique. Much more like other shows out there.

Bring the stupid, silly, joking xplay back. We love it.

i think no one could replace adam, he just understands games inside and out. Sometimes you don't need melons to be heard, you just need to just talk about them. melon to rules!!!

Hey, I knew what you meant. :)

You really need to get yourself one of the Japanese Square Watermelons. They are neat and blend the hedge of Art... and Food.

... Exploration! This is why I like games like World of Warcraft and Everquest II. I get to go places, and be a tourist, and see new and neat stuff! It's the whole reason I got Dungeon Dwelving.

I think the first game that gave me that real sense that I was going to different places was Ultima V. I mean, it wasn't like the best comparision, and Altered Beasts would really drive that home a little later, but Ultima V had a lot of exploration, the dungeons really ended up being different for me, and the towns popped out and became different places. It really made me want to map and explore things.

Diablo II I think really brought me back to that kind of "Explore and see what is next" gameplay that you experinced, and I am hoping that Diablo III brings that feeling back greatly. I also look forward to Champions Online, where I can get that exploration feel all over again.

Because really, I'm a tourist. With a Big Freaking Sword... but a tourist, none the less.

I have always liked exploring the areas of games that I play, finding secrets, finding cool weapons, learning the terrain for a possible seconds play through, and stuff like that. But I never missed it so much since I recently played Lost Planet with that stupid idea that you need to pick up thermal energy to survive. I feel limited in my exploration because I'm worried of running out of energy and dying in the middle of a wasteland just because I went to see what was over the next hill. I actually like to sit and smell the roses of the games I play.
Plus I like better incentives to explore. Such as if I can find some secret hidden weapon in a level, and then beat the game (without using the weapon outside of that level, because it gets taken away and your character is reset to default weapons), I can use that weapon throughout the game on a second play through.
The Bourne Conspiracy had a decent idea that once you beat the game, the standard SMG became silenced, and the shotgun became automatic. I like advancements in a game to make the game a little easier so it becomes a little more fun without becoming stale.

I still think that Metroid: Other M is going to be great. I like the idea that the game title might refer to "There is still the other metroid somewhere in the galaxy." Will Other M cover that? I would love that. I still pop in Fusion into the GameBoy Player (Can't believe it, let alone the GameCube still work!) and enjoy the last battle over and over again. I just don't like where I am that the same music plays no matter the area. Just bums me. Nintendo needs to put GameBoy (Classic and Color) games on the DSi store. Maybe even wireless support replacing the cords! Get in range and trade Pokemon! So cool. Plus you wouldn't even need a DS Card, just turn it on and pop on the game!

right on, thats what i think makes all jRPG's so fun. speaking of that lets get some turn based games back on the map! i hate this whole new rpg scene, they need to make the hardcore rpgs for us once again. some competetion and less repetition would be nice!

With exploration games like fallout 3 you would think it would take 4 or 5 years to make that game. There are so many places to explore, side quests and people that add to the its replay value. The strategy guide for fallout 3 is humungous which proves there are so many things to find. You can start from scratch playing good, evil and nuetral and u won't get bored. You'll end up finding things you've never found before.

In my opinion you should have compared vats to the 4th of July. There's big explosions bashing melons into a red sticky pulp and of course, an underlying sense of patriotism (I.e. the pit boy's interface and the setting being post apocalyptic Washington D.C. [not including the settings in the expansion packs because I don't have good enough internet connection to access Xbox live, so I wouldn't know])
