EA Sports has announced details on two batches of downloadable content for Fight Night Round 4. First up is a premium boxer pack. According to EA's press release:
"Its first downloadable boxer pack for Fight Night Round 4 will be available in late August on Xbox Live and the Playstation Network for 800 Microsoft points and $9.99, respectively. The downloadable boxer pack will include Oscar De La Hoya, Vitali Klitschko, Wladimir Klitschko, and alternate versions of George Foreman and James Toney."
I'm a huge mark for De La Hoya and Toney. The former is one of my favorite boxers of all time and the latter is, by far, the most skilled overweight athlete I've ever seen. Although Toney was in decent shape when he campaigned at middleweight and super middleweight, the only kind of shape he has been in during the last decade is round. I hope one of the alternate versions of Toney portrays him as the slick and slovenly boxer he has been at cruiserweight and above.
As for the free stuff:
"The free update will include additional trunks, gloves and shorts, as well as a free button control scheme that will allow gamers to use face buttons on the Xbox 360 and PS3 game controllers to throw punches, hooks, uppercuts and haymakers. A new demo featuring the button controls will also be available on Xbox Live and the Playstation Network by early September. The 12 round demo will feature Mike Tyson and Muhammad Ali as playable boxers."
Fight Night Round 4 is one of the best games I've played all year and I'm a huge De La Hoya fan, so I'm definitely going to buy the boxer pack. Any of you ladies and gents going to pull the trigger on this one? De La Hoya has been the most popular boxer of the last 20 years -- a hit with fight fans and the mainstream -- but is he enough to carry a $10 download? Also, face-button controls are for chumps.

Wait...wait... these guyz are not in the game yet!!!!!!! AND u have to BUY them(**ores)!!!!!!! I thought this game wuz supposed 2 hav everyone in it already? It seems like you wouldn't want to leave names like these out of the intial launch?

what could you possibly add to james toney? unless its his "joe frazier" make-up from the Ali movie. but you already have joe frazier, so that wouldn't make sense.

I was wondering why ODH was not in the game. I'm glad to see Toney made it to the game. He was a boxer I was hoping would take over the Heavyweight Divsion but unfortunately he just got heavy.

I'd love to have those boxers, but for 1/6th the price of the game it's not really worth having those 3 guys, particularly for people who have already gotten comfortable using create-a-boxer replacements. (Also it's a little bit irritating to see the print advertisements for FNR4 featuring Oscar, implying that this was planned all along).

I finally played the Fight Night Round 4 demo yesterday and loved it. I may just get this game although I said I'm buying anymore of EA's $60 updates.
