Developer Piranha Bytes and publisher Deep Silver are putting real resources behind upcoming RPG Risen. The companies have assembled an impressive voice cast for the game, including Lena Headey (Sarah Connor on the Terminator TV show) John Rhys-Davies (A/K/A Gimli from the Lord of the Rings movies) and Gollum himself, Andy Serkis! Not only that, but veteran video game writers Rhianna Pratchett, James Leach and Andrew S. Walsh are on hand to actually provide the dialog for the A-List actors assembled for this project.
The game itself involves a main character waking up shipwrecked on a tropical island that features an active volcano where Ancient temple ruins have recently risen from the ground. Also: creatures infest the island. So, solid setting, monsters, mystery... yeah!
Keep your eye on Risen. It's due to come out on October 9th on PC and 360, and could seriously shake things up in the RPG world... and even if it doesn't, you gotta give Deep Silver points for trying here: Creating a AAA RPG is not an easy endeavor by any stretch, and it seems like the company is attempting a serious entry into the space.
