Some WipEout HD Ads Canned

wipeout HD

Yesterday, I brought you word that dynamic advertisements in WipEout HD were not only inevitable, they were also infuriating: Gamers who downloaded the new advertising-enhanced WipEout reported that at least one of the new commercials doubled loading-screen time. But don't worry: Sony has responded quickly and pulled the offending ad from the game.

"The ad has been removed from WipEout HD and we are investigating the situation to ensure that any in-game advertising does not affect gameplay," said a Sony spokesperson.

Thanks, Sony! I like to gripe about it, but it looks like in-game advertising is here-to-stay. "Dialing in" the ratio and presentation of ads will do a lot to calm anti-ad cranks like me. Now, if Sony would only correct the weird inter-capitalization in the game's title (Seriously, "WipEout"?) I'd be completely happy and I could finally get some sleep.
