Just as I shouted to the heavens that Brutal Legend will likely be avoiding a delay over a lawsuit comes news that Capcom is pushing Dark Void out of a fall 2009 release date "in order to get the game out of the crowded fall game season," the company revealed. Capcom also cited a desire to polish up Dark Void. If that's the real reason, I can't argue with that.
Is it really that crowded anymore?

I am not planning on getting MW2, so I think it would be funny if it got delayed and then everyone would crap their pants again. Also maybe Capcom realized that just because a game is featured in a magazine it is not guarantied to sell. i didnt play Bionic Commando but maybe they thought this game was shaping up to follow in its footsteps.

Everyone Flees From The Beast That Is Modern Warfare 2

Im sure its all for the best but, DAM ... So lets just call the 09 Q4 the season of delays ...

I can name roughly a dozen games I'm interested in that come out between Sept 1st and X-Mas, and Dark Void isn't even on the list. So yeah, pushing it back is a very good idea.
However, if it ends up in what is becoming the magical Jan-March 2010 window (where I can name another 10 games or so that I want more than this one), it probably won't fare much better than if it came out this fall.
So let's shoot for next summer, shall we?

"Is it really that crowded anymore?"
No it isn't; however, the games that are left are Modern Warfare 2 and ODST. So, it's like being in an elevator with 2, incredibly, insanely, morbidly obese guys. You don't want to be in the elevator with them, so you decide to wait for the next one.

I have to agree that pushing back to 2010 isn't necessarily helping anyone anymore. Several big titles were either originally planned or pushed to early 2010 and basically handing the season over to whatever is left. Now I think a lot of games will have to either get pushed back again or just come out in early 2010 and wait until people get around to them Most people have their priority list of games, so when isn't necessarily as important as what.

Avoid Competition? But Mass Effect 2, Final Fantasy 13, and God of War 3 are coming out in early 2010. So Dark Void is still gonna have competition with some of the most anticipated titles.

I think that by pushing all of these games back in order to 'avoid competition' that they are actually just getting more competition. They have made an insane amount of changes to release dates, and they are all getting thrown into one quarter. They are just prolonging the inevitable. If they had some sense, they would have organized it to where some games got pushed back until quarter one, and some had stayed in their original time slots. Getting that kind of cooperation would be incredibly difficult though. They are getting the big names like Assassins Creed 2, Modern Warfare 2 and Halo ODST. Those are pretty much going to dominate, but still. That's just 3 games compared to like the 5 or however many has already been pushed back, or added to what was already there.

Heck maybe all of the promises of 2009 being pushed into 2010 is a blessing. They should schedule more game releases around tax return time. (unless you live in California and get an IOU)
But really games companies should run for president, all of these promises and no delivery.

Wow, I mean Im all for delays if it makes for a better game but delaying it just for the sake of delaying it?
Makes me glad I had zero intrest in this game anyway, and seriously EVERYTHING is being delayed this year:Heavy Rain,Bioshock 2,MAG,The new mario bros for the wii,White knight chronicals,etc...
So when are they planning on releasing it? because if things keep going the way they are the only way they can avoid competition is to release it...well NOW!
Honestly though Dark Void sounded really dumb to begin with, I doubt a delay for ANY reason will change the sales outcome, if anything it'll make it worse since people will forget about it (Which isnt hard) when everything else is out next year.

I gotta side with Adam from Xplay on this one. His newest soapbox focuses exactly on this sorta stuff.
I'm gonna bet on a early summer 2010 release because of the competition.

@RODDisBack
yea they are going to run into problems with god of war 3 and final fantasy 13 and the other awesome games coming out in the spring
RRODisBack
What these devs fail to realize is that they're going to run into the same problem next year. I hope this teaches everyone to release games during the dry months and not all in the fourth quarter.
rocker_ant
this game looks like crap to be honest
joshua_nash
there is a an upside at least now i can have time to get in multiple playthroughs of AC2, Brutal legend and Alpha protocol
ral1121
By Crowded, they mean only one game, and that is Modern Warfare 2.
its really sad but true..........
DreamingDarklyRobin
How many games are left now? I'm all for making games better but this is insane. There won't be anything to play!
Tommytsunami
its not crowded in terms of the amount of games coming out though ratchet and clank and uncharted have yet to be pushed back along with odst, modren warfare and borderlands but really what games want to compete with odst, modern warfare and uncharter 2? going up against modern warfare on its own is like some scrawny kid trying to wrestle someone from raw
Stukes
one word: FAIL.
multiple words: they are probably not done or they know that the game is going to be crap.
