Hollywood is looking at picking up yet another video game for a film treatment. inFamous, released only just this past May for PlayStation 3, is the latest. The Hollywood Reporter reports Sony Pictures has picked up a pitch from screenwriter Sheldon Turner, who also wrote the The Longest Yard remake.
Hollywood producers Avi Arad and Ari Arad, also working on potential Uncharted: Drake's Fortune and Mass Effect films, have been tapped to produce.
"What excited me most about the game was it was the first of which I've come across that had a big idea and a character arc," said Turner to The Hollywood Reporter about his approach. "It is, I believe, the future of gaming. The game, while big and fun, is at its core a love ballad to the underachiever, which is what our hero, Cole McGrath, is."
inFamous is a long, long ways away from becoming a movie, but like so many others, someone is trying to make it happen. Do you think it's a good idea?

A movie of InFamous would be great as long as they don't screw it up some how.

It is a great game with a terrific storyline, but as we all know video game movies tend to fail quite spectacularly. I think I'll be wary, but optimistic until more info comes out about it.

Umm... what's the sequel to infamous movie one evil version xD theyres 2 story line's how you put both into one story o.O
Uncharted is prob only one i'd see out all the movie's supposuddly being made as it's only one out of them that would make a decent movie as that's basically what game is a modern indi basically.

i believe it is an insanely good idea they should do this with more video games with good story lines

infamous is a great game i personally love it but wouldnt we rather see a MGS movie? all we need is to tell david hayter to bulk up and get hideo to direct , write, and produce it already!
metal_gear_ratchet
no offense to infamous i personally love the game but why dont we all just tell david hayter to bulk up and get hideo kojima to make a MGS movie already!

I might watch it depeding on the what the producer does with the movie as in will Cole be playing the part of the Hero or the villian?

This is off topic, but I couldn't help but notice today's poll question. 91% of us agree that "good things take time" but almost every time I come to this site I see comments bashing Sony for delaying games to improve their quality. I just find this all incredibley ironic.

I agree with JTHMROCKS how would it work out with the morality choices.
jthmrocks
I don't think this will work. inFamous was about making morality choices to either be good or evil. How will that work in the film?

WoW most certainly does have a story. It is far more interesting than most of the utter filth that hollywood releases each year. However, I do not want to see a WoW movie. Reasons are as follows. First it would suck and I can't take another watchmen. Secondly hollywood needs to learn to iono COME UP WITH AN ORIGINAL SCRIPT. They are so lazy these days. I would guestimate 90+% of all popular movies a year are GASP based off a book, a game, a comic, or a remake. Now days hollywood is about special effects all creativity and originality was lost long ago. I challenge every person that reads this to think of a good movie they saw that wasted based off a book. Then list off how many great ones were a rip off.

i personally think this and uncharted would be the most realistic to do, based off their story's as for the WoW movie, i think thats stupid, its too many fantasy based characters and on top of that WoW doesnt really have a story anyway does it?

i just saw and downloaded the metal gear rising trailer...in the xbox live marketplace.
crazy!

sweet!!!! i totally think infamous should get a movie, but hollywood needs to stop making games into movies. it is driving me crazy!!!

I didn't mean to do that twice. My first one wasn't showing up for some reason =/

The fact that Hollywood seems to be looking at all these games for movies (Gears of War, inFamous, Bioshock, [I don't know if you would count] Halo, and [I think, not sure] God of War) only backs up the argument that games are and are becoming a better medium for story telling than previously believed. We're starting to get all these deep and complex story lines from games like Bioshock, inFamous, Metal Gear Solid, and Half-life where there's just so much to learn about the world and characters, it's no surprise that Hollywood's looking at games more and more - especially since most of the movies these days suck. It only adds fuel to the fire for the whole "games as art" debate. I guess go watch that Sessler's Soapbox from a while ago if you want to know more of what I mean.

As long as it isn't targeted towards kids I think it could be good. They need to give it to a director with talent instead of these remake hacks.

I think the fact that Hollywood seems to be looking at all these games recently (Gears of War, Bioshock, God of War [I believe, not sure on that one], [I don't know if you would count] Halo, and now inFamous) only backs up the idea that games just keep becoming a better medium for storytelling than previously thought. We're starting to get all these deep and complex storylines in games like Bioshock, inFamous (I'm assuming from what I've heard - no PS3 here), Metal Gear Solid, Mass Effect, and I'm just waiting for them to announce a Half-life movie. It's like Hollywood's saying "Oh man, these are actually pretty good stories, from video games, no less." It's just fuel to the fire for the "games as art" debate.
