Prince Of Persia Movie

Check out the photo above. That's Prince Dastan, played by the Jake Gyllenhaal, and Princess Tamina (Gemma Arterton) from the upcoming Prince of Persia movie, Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time. Dastan and Tamina have just escaped from something wet, and are drying off on their horse. The flick is being directed by Mike Newell  and produced by Jerry Bruckheimer and hits theaters on May 28th, 2010.

As with all video game movies, I will assume that this one will be bad. As much as I'd love to have hope, my optimism has been crushed so many times in the past, that I now take the default position that any movie adaptation of a video game will be terrible. Experience is on my side. I will conceded, however, that Gemma Arterton is hot. What do you think? Is the Prince of Persia series just cinematic enough to buck the trend of bad game-based-films? Let us know in the comment section below!

the problem most people have is that they can't separate the movie from the game or vice versa. the movie will NEVER be the game EVAR! movies and video games are essentially polar opposites or entertainment. one is interactive the other is not.
why people even begin to compare a movie of a game to the game blows my effing mind. and just really pisses me off.
if fans begin to say "ok this isn't going to be my beloved game it's going to be a representation of the game in movie form and that's how i'll view it." i think fans of games will appreciate movies based off video games alot more. there are of course just plain bad movies based off of video games but some of the bad ones aren't as bad as people think, if they could just separate the two entertainment forms and try to enjoy them in the form they are in they may get ore enjoyment out of a given adaptation.

I'd think this one has a better chance than other "game to movie" ports. With Disney behind it, they have a lot of money to throw around. While it wasn't a video game before it became a movie, look at Pirates of the Caribbean. Taking some solid characters and making two out of three decent films (the second film was filler) is something they can succeed in with the proper guidance (fan feedback). I would think that these sort of epic characters would stand the same kind of test to make these films better than most video game adaptations.

well, I hope that it is good. It doesnt have to great, just good. IMO, Silent Hill is the only game made to movie that was worth watching. I mean watching those nurses kill each other, seeing that woman cop burn to death, the whole transition from earth to hell. Say what you want, that was a good movie tie-in. I can only hope that POP is also.

Hmm, No Middle Eastern actors!? ...Anywhere!?... In the entire world!?...then, shouldn't we get Tom Cruise to save Persia, just like he saved Japan?

    /sarcasm off

i hope this movie is full of Gyllenhaal dying by missing a bunch of jumps, but then rewinding and making the jumps.

it is true videogame to film adaptations are terrible (shudders as i remember the days uwe bowl had some notoreity in hollywood) but hey, i thought silent hill was pretty good anyone else? and im skeptical about this film jerry bruckheimer has been known to make some good films but also some bad ones , natl treasure 2 or pirates 2 anyone? (maybe it just has to do with 2's so as long as he doesnt make a sequel it should be fine)

it's gonna do bad. why? because what made prince of persia so great i think was the crazy over the top parkour like stuff that he did in the games. i'm guessing they are gonna replicate that and will have to use wires which has never looked good and i think will look bad, which in turn will make the movie lame.

With Bruckheimer at the helm I have the feeling /hoping this series follows in the footsteps of his previous blockbuster trilogy Pirates of the Caribbean.
But that could also be just wishful thinking.
I really hope this movie is good. I love the video games, I want to love the movies.

I've gotten to the point now where I wish that Hollywood would piss off and leave all my favorite things alone. They screw up good plotlines that are cut-and-dried, and buy up franchises that are balanced and deep and somehow make them trivial and meaningless. The only video game movie I think was actually decent was the first Mortal Kombat movie, but even that plot was absolutely nothing like the game...they just got lucky coming up with things out of nowhere.

If he can get doggy styled a few times in a movie when he is really straight then I guess he should be able to pull off a Persian.

This just looks like a Scorpian King type movie, corny, cheezy and a wait to rent.

The names attached to the film should give everyone some hope. Though it is true that more often then not, well scratch that, always these adaptions are bad. I do find it a little funny though that when they try to tell the story exactly like the game they fail, when they try to make it like the game but give it a more movie friendly story they fail. So whats the answer for making a video game movie? Well in the words of the great tootsie pop owl, "the would may never know."

two other side-notes i would like to add.

I do think there is two movies that could do really well as long as they only use the characters and their relations to one another and their universe's story. The first is the uncharted movie whose game(s) plays out like a movie and making a story even based of the game itself would work but i do fell they should make a whole other story line rather than remake one of the games into a movie. the other is a MGS movie. Now you have to hear me out on this one. i think there is a chance for a great movie as long as they do not try to make a movie based on any of the games themselves. I would like to see a MGS movie set in the time between the first and second game. this would allow the writers to make a whole new story line rather than compact a games'. they would get to have the two main characters they need (snake and otacon) and could write any story that fits in the MGS time frame.
