Mature content's had a tough time sales wise on Nintendo's platforms, despite promising attempts by some of the best developers and publishers in the business. The Conduit was the latest victim, preceded by MadWorld and Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars. Wired recently spoke with Nintendo of America's VP of corporate affaird Denise Kaigler, who admitted Nintendo isn't sure why mature content's having trouble gaining traction.
"You know, I don’t know," said Kaigler. "It’s hard to say. It could be titles have the same type of sales curve that a lot of Nintendo titles have. A lot of Nintendo titles don’t follow that traditional sales curve where they launch big and then that’s it. Our titles have a long tail. They build in popularity, and this could be the case with, as you mentioned, MadWorld and The Conduit. I’ve played both. I’m not a core gamer, and I found that they were challenging and fun. We’re hopeful that the titles will catch on and that consumers who already have those games will spread the word and others will follow suit there. They’re deep experiences, and they’re very challenging titles, and we certainly like them. But it’s our hope that the games will pick up in popularity and they’ll continue to sell."
If Nintendo doesn't have a theory yet, that could be a problem. Do you?

Nintendo needs a next/gen console; comparable or more powerful than the Xbox 360 or Ps3.Hardcore gamers crave a good contest in their games so too do they wish to see that same competition amongst the game companies ,all battling it out for a hardcore gamers money..that's whats thrilling! Hard cores by majority also own multiple consoles.Games on multiple platforms would be a profitable improvement not exclusives. Gamers all want to root for someone and are willing to shell out money to support them. But Nintendo can't compete with 360 or Ps3 in terms of hardcore gaming that offer the highest in gaming. So Nintendo receives no love from the "hardcore crowd" for not understanding the mind of the hardcore gamer and ultimately falling out of touch with the gamer culture. Its irrelevant whether or not Nintendo has a "good" or "hardcore" game because its ancient in terms of current game play mechanics as well as the dazzling look of other games of its genre. Wii is just not in league with current console technology. Had those games been featured on any other console there would be an increasing difference in sales and more importantly "buzz" which there is a complete lack of. This is truly the the final word on this a dead horse of an issue; the balls in your court Nintendo or "N-tenDog" as its referred to by its closet unsuccessful selling games. Double K.O.!

Hm. If any of these would be consumers are like me, they aren't buying because their Wii broke from from a 'finish him' blow from atop the shelf it was sitting on while playing a mad game of Super Smash Bros. with GCN controllers.
P.S.- My warranty was expired, so it was inevitable.
Now if that isn't the case, they aren't buying because they would rather play the games like Wii Sports Resort or whatever, which resembles, to me, the PC games you find in the dusty part of the PC Software Isle dubbed 'Budget Software' in which you would find games such as Bejeweled 2 or Diner Dash.
Besides, after my Wii was killed (at least the disc reader was) I discovered that I greatly preferred sitting down and staring at a TV screen rather than standing in the middle of my living room floor, as if it were a stage, and gyrating- making doubly sure that my fragile, porcelain vase, depicted in the warning of motion sensitive games was at the FAR end of the room.

Hm. If the would be consumers are anything like me, they aren't buying because their wii dropped to the ground off of its little shelf while playing Super Smash Bros. Brawl with (wired!) gamecube controllers.
P.S. The warranty expired, so it was inevitable.
Anyway, I would suspect that the main crowd of Wii followers are people doing those silly games that are pretty much like the 4.99 games you see in the dusty part of the PC isle where they cell 'budget games' like Bejeweled. And by those games I mean like Wii Sports Resort or whatever. I know Wii Sports is fun- for like a few minutes when the novelty wears off and mom and dad don't want to bowl or play tennis anymore.
Come to find out after my Wii broke, I greatly prefer sitting down and staring at a screen rather than gyrating in the middle of my living room- making sure my fragile porcelain vase depicted in the warnings at the beginnings of motion sensor games is on the FAR side of the room.

Well, if anyone is like me, they aren't buying because their Wii dropped from the little shelf it was sitting on while playing Super Smash Bros. Brawl.
P.S. The Warranty expired, so it had to happen. Sad face.

wow nintendo execs are #$%^ing clueless morons.
"durrrr mature game not sell well me wonder why."
maybe b/c 99% of your install base is either not mature or if they are adults, don't like mature games will lots of violence and gore n such hence why they bought a Wii in the first place.

Nintendo didn't fail the hardcore, the hardcore failed Nintendo. The hardcore always complain the Wii doesn't have mature games but as soon as developers announce/release some they complain that it doesn't work and don't play em or buy em.Hipocrites i say! Either support them or shut up! Most of the hardcore are like indecisive school girls that have absolutely no idea what they want. The hardcore should have been allover Madworld and HOTD Overkill. What is your excuse??

I think that problem is when they were released. alot of good hardcore games came out on the 360 and ps3 when these games came out. i think if they were released now they would have a better chance since this is a dry summer. I have been buying games that were released up to two years ago because they are cheaper and there are not really a whole lot of good games that i want to play.

It's simple: make more hardcore games. Nintendo needs to understand that for a long time, "hardcore" gamers felt neglected when not enough hardcore games were released. I say stop making crappy 2-minute games for every little kid movie, stop making sequels to sports-themed Mario games, blah blah blah. MadWorld, No More Heroes, the Conduit and Call Of Duty are all fun on the Wii. More games like these will help the Wii gain a hardcore gamer audience.
And for all the hardcore gamers, while everyone is upstairs playing Wii Sports and Boom Blox, you're down in thr basement, playing Halo. Before you go bashing games like Wii Sports and Boom Blox, saying they are horrible, at least try them out. A video game doesn't have to heads exploding and blood spilled for it to be fun.

they all suck... Why didn't GTA have the same perspective as the PSP/ PS2/ PS3/ 360 games. the top down view would work on a larger screen (like GTA1 and 2 had on PC and consoles), but the small screen means I can only see 20 feet in front of my car. I have to memorize the whole map.
Mad World turned me off with no color. It makes it hard for me to see objects.

Maybe we wouldn't hate them so much if there wasn't so much shovelware. I own ten Wii games, at most (a few of them are downloaded), and when you can only find that many good games out of its huge library of crap clogging the market, it's a bad sign. I usually stick with stuff like No More Heroes and Trauma Center: New Blood. The latter sold very poorly, which is a shame due to how amazing it is. The fact that it sold so few copies proves that people would rather buy shovelware titles than games that are FUN. The least they could do is look and see critic averages so that they avoid buying these abominations.

It shouldn't be that hard to figure out. Madworld is excessively violent which is not the wii's audience and the conduit wasn't a very good game. You also have to add in they aren't marketed as much as games on other systems. Nintendo games sell well because they have name recognition and games like the conduit and madworld don't. Wii gamers are also more concerned about price. I bought a wii because I just can't afford an xbox or playstation so I look for games that get good reviews, have replay value, and aren't just technical shows (...like the conduit). I didn't buy madworld because of its content and I traded in the conduit because it was a poor game. I do however have other games like smash bros, okami, boom blox, little king's story, and mario galaxy. Their unique games that are meant to be fun, rather than "pretty."

The Wii is not a hardcore gamer system. I'm not a fan of their wii remotes and if they think the conduit can compete with real hardcore games they are mistaken. Games like Halo or Call of Duty have great graphics and gameplay. Its obvious that hardcore gamers have a ps3 or 360. party gamers of for the wii who can go play 8 year old games

Oh yeah! I almost forgot. To Raymond aka "The PaddyWagon" Padilla we all of us told you so.

I disagree with your stereotyping assumption. I was a huge nintendo fan, and would love for nothing more than the Wii to be great. I have played every major Wii title and the only ones I think i even walked away from liking were Zelda, Super Paper Mario, & Metroid (don't quote me on that though, because honestly i only remember Zelda). Super Mario Galaxy wasn't bad, but i was hoping for something more, and Smash Bros and Mario Kart are just getting old.
Every other game I've played (like No More Heroes, MadWorld, Rayman, Boom Blox) has just been nothing more than minigame extravaganzas for children with A.D.D. Some people may like flailing around like and idiot; i just don't find it fun. So i can only take about 5 minutes of that before i quit.
I think the critics have been too nice. Many of us have given the Wii more than its fair chance. And every time we sit down to play the next 'core' game that The Big N tries to give us, we are just disappointed even more. That can only happen so much before a person gives up entirely.

You can blame it on a hundred things. The fact of the matter is, real gamers have lost faith in Nintendo. I have always loved Nintendo since childhood. I owned every console they released. I am a hardcore 360 player and never look back. I still own a wii and will dust it off for the next Zelda.
WhiteWolfAssassin
I think Nintendo and developers should deal with some issues in order to increase sales. First, Nintendo really needs to embrace and support an online network. Second, Nintendo should incorporate some awards system similar to Xbox 360 achievements and Playstation 3 trophies. Finally, developers need to think on how to extend the game life and offer high re-playability, in order to make it more worth our money.

One more thing, How many Good 3rd Party Hardcore titles are on the wii, not that many. there needs to be more to have greater sales. Developers & Publishers dont stop if you want a Hardcore Market on the wii, you have to build it. Remember Rome wasnt build in a day :)
Giga
its very simple Nintendo + 20years of kids games = lack of support for over rated games with lower graphical value
