There was a curious line hidden away in Variety's story yesterday about director D.J. Caruso (of Eagle Eye fame) being attached to an in-development Dead Space film. Variety claimed Electronic Arts was "working on the second and third installments." Of course, people quickly jumped on this line -- does this mean Dead Space 2 and Dead Space 3?
The team behind Dead Space Extraction hinted a Dead Space 2 reveal wasn't far off at their Comic-Con panel, but EA didn't have much to say about Variety's piece.
"The only Dead Space game announced and in development at this time is Dead Space Extraction," said an EA spokesperson in an e-mail to me.
Dead Space 2 is a given. Whether EA is concurrently developing Dead Space 3, however, remains the question at hand. There's a good chance Variety simply mistook Dead Space Extraction for one of the "sequels" in development and what we're looking at here is a whole bunch of discussion over…nothing. Hey, it's what the Internet was made for.

I loved Dead Space. Best single player only game last year. Best horror game in a long time.
