Back in the 1980s, Will "Fresh Prince" Smith and DJ Jazzy Jeff seemingly put to rest an age old mystery by proclaiming: "He's the DJ, I'm the Rapper" on the cover of a record (they had those back then) they made together. But, in case you still had doubts as to who is whom, DJ Jazzy Jeff (The DJ) will appear in video game DJ Hero.
Is that clear? DJ Jazzy Jeff is the DJ, and he will be appearing in the DJ Hero video game. Will Smith is the rapper (kind of) and he will not be appearing in DJ Hero. Instead, Smith will be appearing in a series of huge-budget blockbuster films that will premier on the 4th of July.
Mr. Jeff will also create exclusive mixes for the game. Tears for Fears "Shout" vs. Eric B & Rakim "Eric B. Is President'" and LL Cool J "Rock the Bells" vs. The Aranbee Pop Symphony Orchestra "Bittersweet Symphony'" will appear in the game alongside Jeff's in-game character.
DJ Hero will be out on Wii, 360 and PS3 by the end of October.
Okay, TheFeed commenters, it's pop quiz time: Who is the DJ and who is the rapper?

I don't think the writer was insulting Will Smith's musical talents. I think he was commenting on how his career has mostly moved away from music and into acting.

What do you mean that The Fresh Prince Will Smith was "sort of" a rapper. Not only did he cut his teeth freestyling in Philadelphia rap battles, but he is often credited by many of his peers (that being MCs, rappers, DJs, etc.) of being the rapper to bring hip hop to the masses. Will Smith was one of rap music's most profound ambassadors. I don't know what your definition of a rapper is, but whatever it is it can't be right . . .

I completely agree with you. The Magnificent and Magnificent 2 are both great albums. Plus he co-produced all of Jill Scott's albums, worked with Little Brother, Slum Village, Rhymefest, Eric Robertson, Raheem Devaughn, and many others.

@Bishop186: Dude, the album cover is POSTED right above the article and it clearly says DJ JAZZY JEFF!!!
@lilbrinkie: I was gonna comment on PS#Darklighter's comment but decided against it when I saw your brilliant comeback. Thank you...

@lilbrinkie
I second that.

PS3Darklighter, I really hope that was just your sense of humor, because if not, you just blew me away with how much dumb you could fit into one comment.

Back during E3, they finally had some gameplay footage of DJ Hero and it took me until then to get how to play it. Basically you do have a turntable and a cross-fader and three colored buttons. Just like GH or RB, you have to press the buttons in sync with the colors as they come down the screen. Where it's like a DJ is that there are sections where you have to 'scratch', and crossfade making one song/beat/rhythm more or less dominate than the other song/beat/rhythm.
I'm very curious about this game and I definitely want to try it out before I buy it. The music that I've heard from it sounds UNBELIEVABLE. Really, really good. I'm excited about this game because not everybody grew up listening to rock-and-roll and heavy metal which is pretty much all that GH & RB are. I'm not saying those music genres are bad, I like a lot of it, but those aren't the end-all, be-all to musical expression in the US.
And before you ask, I don't think we'll ever see a Blues Hero or Jazz Hero. =P

Will Smith is the actor. The other guy is. . . not sure.
Also can someone explain DJ hero? I get that it comes with a record player controller. So you put the songs on that the game requests? I don't get how being the DJ can turn into a game. A sim radio station maybe but just the DJ?

The irony is that I liked Jazzy Jeff way more once he split off from Will Smith.
Check out both of "The Magnificent" albums. Great hip-hop, awesome beats, awesome production. Also a really good house DJ.
The kids will think of him as the guy who Uncle Phil threw off the porch, but people who are in the know about DJ culture will probably take note in light of the news.

Um, I think Will Smith is the DJ?
