Peter Jackson’s film adaptation of Bungie’s Halo might be dead in the water (for now), but Len Wiseman’s big-screen take on Epic Games’ gore-tastic Gears of War is moving along as planned. Wiseman and screenwriter Chris Morgan joined Epic heads Cliff Bleszinski and Rod Ferguson for Epic’s Comic-Con 2009 "Gearsiverse" panel to talk about the movie, as well as reveal some of the new Gears content fans can expect to see over the coming months. I’m sorry Gears-heads, but there was zero talk about Gear of War 3. Just thought you should know that before we went any further.
Based on some of the vagueness of most of the answers provided by the panelists, it's pretty safe to say that development on the Gears film is progressing, albeit it rather slowly. Wiseman, who became interested in Epic's massively popular series after choosing the first game to appear in the background of a scene in Live Free or Die Hard, revealed that no serious casting decisions have been made at this point, but that development is coming along. When asked what fans could expect to see in the new film, Morgan confirmed that Emergence Day will certainly be depicted, but that the movie’s tone will be determined more by “the characters and how they are interacting with each other.”
Wiseman and Morgan went on to talk about the importance of collaborating with a game’s developers when adapting it for the big screen. According to Bleszinski, one of the reasons there have been so many poor video game movies is because, “There’s no collaboration. Hollywood takes the property and never talks to the people who made it.” This certainly hasn’t been the case for the Gears film, as evidenced by Wiseman’s admission that the hardest part of the adaptation process has been figuring out what parts of the game won’t be in the movie.
Wiseman went on to explain, “"There's so much opinion out there already about what this movie should be and shouldn't be… It becomes what you find is important to embrace and what you decide could possibly be left out."
And on that note, be sure to check out the full "Gearsiverse" live blog (written by G4tv.com’s Patrick Klepeck) to find out more about the Epic panel, including what actress Wiseman would like to see appear in the Gears movie, as well as what Epic has in store for Gears 2 fans over the coming months. Also, be sure to check out tonight's X-Play for even more details about the highly anticipated Gears movie.
Are you looking forward to the Gears of War movie? What aspects of the games are you most excited about seeing on the big screen?

This could be interesting. I've always felt that the Gears story was better as a movie then a game. I just hope that they don't use Doom as a model of how to turn a shooter into a movie!

I'm most definitely looking forward to the Gears movie, and I really hope they go for a R rating. I want to see motherf#%kers getting chainsawed and curb stomped. I want to see heads exploding while hearing a very distinct popping sound. I want hear caveman dialog being spoken from the Cog and the Locust , but most importantly I want to see General Raam walk in slow motion, punch the sh#t out of Kim, stab him, and toss him aside like a piece of garbage. Also there has to be a Cole Train rap during the end credits.

All I ask is that they keep the original voice actor for Cole's character, as an actor in the movie!! He is the only person in the voice cast, who's actually built and looks like their character in the game!! It's gonna make a lot of people unhappy no matter how they do the movie!! Simply because we are use to two amazing games with the characters looking a certain way as well as sounding a certain way! So whoever they cast in this movie, the fans of the game is going to be dissapointed!! Also, if the blood and gore that is the selling point of the game, is kept true to form in the movie!! The worst thing they can do is make this movie PG-13 for the "Summer Blockbuster" audience!!

gears, of all the games currently out right now, would probably be the best candidate for a movie.

I just dont see this working out for them, I mean, how are you going to fit all those glitches and lag into an hour and a half movie is just beyond my understanding.
