Iron Man 2: The Video Game Debut Trailer »

Updated: Debut Trailer

It was only a matter of time before Sega revealed it was working on an Iron Man 2 video game, but it's not often a company takes time during its announcement press release to apologize for the quality (or complete lack thereof, in this case) of he previous video game. Yet, Sega bowed to gamers in their Iron Man 2 press release, pleading fans to take a look at their sequel.

Here's your apology, gamers:

"The development team at SEGA Studios San Francisco has also paid close attention to comments from fans and critics concerning the first Iron Man movie game. As a result of this feedback, Iron Man 2 will feature a greater focus on powerful hand-to hand combat, as well as a completely redesigned control scheme, making it more fun for gamers to feel the power and strength of Iron Man."

Iron Man 2 isn't a direct adaptation of the movie sequel that just finished filming. Rather, comic writer Matt Fraction has taken elements of the movie and its sequel (such as the inclusion of villain Crimson Dynamo) and created a brand-new plot specifically geared for an Iron Man video game. That's the hope, anyway, right?

Fraction's comic work includes The Invincible Iron Man, The Uncanny X-Men, The Immortal Iron Fist and many of his own original work, including Casanova, Five Fists of Science and Last of the Independents.

Iron Man 2 will be released on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PSP, Wii and DS in spring 2010. Are you willing to give Sega another chance?

A game company actually apologizing for their game being complete crap? That's a first. Now how about taking the same approach to your Sonic games?

In all honesty, I doubt this game will be excellent. I think a friend of mine said it best: "Extraordinary claims need extraordinary proof". So unless I see some good details about the game, and maybe a demo for me to play, I'm not holding my breath.

I agree with cryfordawn, I thought the first Iron Man game was okay. Wouldn't say I love it, but it is pretty fun. There was just a learning curve that looked more like a cliff than a gentle incline. It seemed to get the blowing crap up part of being Iron Man right, but it's good to see that the hand to hand system is being completely overhauled. Because that really did suck balls. Flight could use some work, because it was a bit twitchy on the first go around, but I almost liked it that way. Made it seem really fast and intense, even if you did sometimes ricochet around inside close-quartered environments like a super bouncy ball.

As to the charge of this having crappy graphics... well, they used the Iron Man 3d model from the movie. Maybe you're refering to the engine and the way it renders things? Or the texture work (which looked pretty good to me)? Hey, beauty is in the eye and all that, but it looked more than serviceable imho.

Maybe I'm biased because Iron Man is my fav, but I'm more than willing to give this a chance, especially if Sega has recognized the faulty areas.

    Where's the apology? I don't see one.

The "apology" is something that the press is trying to trick the public into believing. Sega should stop buying press/advertising and put their money into making better games!

When are movie developers going to know that gamers don't want a movie-based game? They need more than one main villain so that it feels like a comic book.

I like how a lot of people here are just throwing insults about the graphics. This is a multi-platform game, so the quality of the visuals will of course not be up to par with exsclusives, even more so considering it is on both the DS and PSP, as well as the Wii, which isn't as graphically capable as other systems. As a fan huge fan of the Iron Man fiction and owner of the first game, I am pleased to see the effort being put into the sequel, and am looking forward to the game; possibly more so than the movie.
