Remember that black Wii I told you about a few year ago? And all the commenters were like, "OMG! Want!" well, sorry folks. Unless you go to Japan, you can not haz. Nintendo told game daily that it has "no plans to have other colors of Wii in the U.S."
In a way this is bad news, but in a way, it's the best news. Sometimes difficulty = coolness; if you travel to Japan and bring back a black Wii, you will be the envy of all your gaming friends. This level of coolness would be impossible if all it took was a trip to Best Buy, right?
Another thought: If these sell really well in Japan, you might see them brought to the states in some possible future. Just because Nintendo doesn't have plans now, doesn't mean it won't have plans later, see? So keep your fingers crossed! Do you think a black Wii would enhance the image of the system among "hardcore" gamers?

This does look pretty cool. The colour makes it seem so much more appealing. If there was a way to convert all my downloads from my current wii to a black one, I would so have this. Being that I have spent over 150 pounds on downloads and there are no plans for a release in the US, let alone england, i won't get excited. The thing that has annoyed me the most isa the amount of people calling nintendo just for releasing a different colour is ridiculous. It seems no matter what nintendo do, they can't do anything right and people just slag them off. I think people should appreciate what the wii has, yes its full of family friendly games, but there not all bad (wii sports resort, mario kart (kinda family friendly), and wii fit), and then you have got decent core titles like mario galaxy, resi 4, madworld, overkill, smash bros, no more heroes, i could go on. There are many more coming out too, metroid, galaxy 2, dead space, silent hill, new super mario bros, nmh2. So tell me all mighty hardcore gamers, what does nintendo have to do to get your love? The point im making is, just accept nintendo for who they are, yes i know they have there faults, but all games companys do. They havn't given up on you, its just they have a new audience now and they are trying to keep both audiences happy.

I REALLY HOPE Nintendo lets you download a homebrew which lets you play DVDs. Twilight Hack is hard. :(

I figure Wii sales are bound to start falling soon, and if they do send that state side they better upgrade it to the point that it is a must own. I don't see everyone getting an upgraded version only for more memory when you can just get an SD card. Cross your fingers that Nintendo figures it out that we would like some graphical power over a Mac-2, if you know what I mean.

I might be looking to far into this, but maybe this is Nintendo's attempt at rebranding the Wii. For so long, we've been associating the crisp, white design with casual games and family friendliness. By making the Wii black, they're giving the console an edgier, sexier look. (Yes, I just called a game console sexy)
This move definitely isn't going to bring over hardcore gamers (not directly), but it may cause developers to see the Wii in a different light. Then they'll [hopefully] make more intense games for the Wii, and would encourage 1) hardcore gamers to get one, and 2) no-longer-casual-gamers who have a Wii to start playing with them again.
Or, you know. They could just be changing the color for fun. Who knows?
