Dragon Quest IX Sells Over 2.3 Million Units In Just Two DaysOk. Ok. So Square Enix’s RPG Dragon Quest IX: Protectors of the Sky for the Nintendo DS sold over 2.3 million copies in its first week (aka two days) of sale in Japan. But just because the units are flying off the shelves doesn’t mean hardware is as wel…What’s that?...DS sales doubled during the week DQIX was released?...Honestly, why didn’t someone tell me that before I started writing this?

As Reuters reports, data provided by Ascii Media Works reveals that DS sales jumped from 51,601 to almost 127,000 DSs following the release of DQIX, marking the first time in nearly six months that Nintendo has sold more than 100,000 DS units. A good portion of these sales were most likely for the DQIX/DSi bundle that released alongside the standalone title, but as Gamasutra points out, the data doesn’t distinguish between DS and DSi sales, so it’s unclear how many bundles were actually sold. Still, this game just continues to do crazy business, and it should only be a matter of time before it arrives stateside to rack up even more piles of cash.
