I recently sat down with the CEO of Cryptic Software, John Needham, to discuss upcoming super hero MMO Champions Online. The game comes out for PC on September 1st, and the ability of users to create a hero and the hero's nemesis is a big part of the game. But Cryptic has plans to take the user-created content further.
"A big strategy of Cryptic is using user-generated content. So, we have the technology platform that we’ve developed over eight years," Neeham said. "We have amazing content tools, right? We’re working on an interface for those tools. We can hand them off to players, let them make content for all of our games. So, this will probably happen some time next year."
Needham also discussed the possibility of a future console release. "Our technology is 360-compatible," Needham said. "We’d love to be on the platform. So, we’re working with Microsoft on how we can do that. They don’t currently support MMOs right now on 360. So, there’s a lot of complexity in working through those details."
