There's no doubt Gran Turismo on the PSP is the real deal; the E3 demo was one impressive piece of work. It won't feature a few things players might have been expecting, though; the game's producers have taken to the PlayStation Blog to answer some fan questions about Gran Turismo and confirmed there's no car damage and no downloadable content planned.
On the topic of car damage…
"Damage? No. 800+ cars, 35 tracks, on-the-go awesomeness, and a lifetime’s worth of racing, yes."
As for downloadable content…
"We’re planning on having 800+ cars right out of the box, which is pretty much a lifetime’s worth of racing (I’m still unlocking cars from GT4). With that sort of breadth and reach of options, having DLC would be like tossing water into the ocean."
It's still looking damn good, though.

Forza may have less cars, but Forza is just as important in the simulation racing genre as Gran Turismo is. Even if you played Forza and you don't like it, what Forza at least brings to the table is competition. Competition drives Polyphony to make a better GT game than if it didn't exist. IMO, though, Forza is not a bad simulator at all. I definitely prefer GT, but I don't mind playing Forza 3 until GT5 is finally released.
As for GT PSP, 4 cars at a time can only be attributed to the handheld's processing power. I don't mind if it's only just 2 cars at a time. The game is really about driving and not seeing how many cars you can pass by banging them off the track. I do autocross racing and all I'm racing against is lap times, not other cars on the track. Still exciting for me.
As for the damage, I really don't care if it's in the game or not. GT5 Prologue had collision penalties (instead of damage) and that got annoying. Often times, I'm driving perfectly and almost catching up to the AI and all of a sudden it brake checks me. It wouldn't irritate me as much if the computer got a collision penalty also, but the game just penalizes the player.

DLC for a psp game? LOLWUT? No damage is great since i hardly ever crash anyway. This game is about racing, not seeing how many barrel rolls you can do down the straight away.
but only 4 cars a race? ...

Car damage is the most stupid idea ever for this series.
GT is all about the racing. I do not want some idiot or idiot AI hitting my car and damaging it so that it handles poorly. That is just plain stupid. It would make the endurance races irrelevant.
I won't buy GT5 unless it is an option I can disable. If GT5 ever releases.

Come on! No car damage? Doesnt EVERY racer/simulator of importance have that as an average feature? Come on, its 2009, please step it up! DLC I can deal with, but No car damage? That takes the immersion out of the experience, no matter how good the graphics.

Only 4 cars a race seems pretty light, by the way...
