During a recent interview with Cryptic Software's Chief Creative Officer Jack Emmert, we discussed the theoretical possibility of a sequel to upcoming MMO Champions Online. Cryptic's City of Heroes MMO was soon followed with City of Villains, so it makes sense that the company would at least be thinking of an opposite MMO to Champions. According to Emmert, Cryptic has considered the idea deeply enough for him to give it a name: Nemesis Online.
Unlike Villains, the possible Nemesis Online MMO would feature very different gameplay from Champions. Emmert told me:
"If Champions is successful and people want [Nemesis Online], heck yea. But, I think that I already have a very different idea in mind for that. I think in City of Villains, we were asked to make the game in about a year, and so we were kind of focused on 'We gotta get this done.' So, we just took the template of City of Heroes and copied it. If I were to do it over again, I would create a very different type of gameplay for villain worlds."
Champions Online comes out for PC on September 1st. For the rest of my interview with Emmert, follow the link.
