It has been well documented that Bungie's upcoming prequel Halo 3: ODST is the most anticipated game of the year. Yet some diehard Halo fans might be secretly wondering if the latest installment in the massively popular franchise will satisfy on all of the same levels that the previous three games did, especially given the absence of Master Chief.
Well, X-Play's resident Halo guru Mr. Sark was lucky enough to get some hands-on time with ODST, and if you are the one of those players worried about what awaits you in the new game, especially with regards to Bungie's take on the ever-present Horde-inspired game mode (Firefight), perk up your ears:
"Fighting unlimited waves of increasingly difficult enemies is kind of flavor of the month right now, and that's essentially what Firefight is. But what makes it stand out is Halo's spot on control. It's just a pleasure to play that style of game in the Halo world."

Why would you expect better graphics its the same engine as Halo 3 so same graphics and small tweaks to the game play. I think the game looks great for a 3 year old game not to mention that graphics are only a small amount of game play. If I can see the enemy I'm happy if I can shoot him even better I don't need ultra uber shinny graphics so I can be happy in my pants thanks for being a idiot RRodisback.

Seems, pretty awesome, but it sort of looks like COD at the beggining, but it seems to lose the feeling of good ol' Halo. But still looks pretty good.

I know ODST will be good but Modern Warfare 2 will be better. If Halo games had customizable weapons then it might be better than call of duty.

Look just to shut all the ps3 fanboys up everyone knows you over payed for a system that under performs and thats exactly why sony has lost money on they ps3. Bill gates is going to put out a system that is just as good and sell it cheaper until the comp is gone . it called a monopoly

@NortheastMonk Why do you say? Technically the mode is just Robotron with current graphics. But Gears comes out with it and now everyone is putting a little twist on it and sticking it into their games. I don't have a problem with it. The mode has been great since Robotron, but it certainly seems to be a trend. Gears, COD:Waw, L4D survival, ODST.
Hell, I think Fallout 3 should add a Horde mode. The big shootouts in Broken Steel were killer.

ODST looks amazing and everything but now with these 'Vidmaster' sooner or later every will be running around with recon armor, think of it when you first unlocked hayabusa your like "OMG THIS STUFF IS AWESOME" then u go into matchmaking an everyone has it on and it loses the sentimental value to you. Again ODST looks awesome, and firefight looks like i can get some entertainment out of it for a couple months, and with the second disk i dont need to go back to the store to buy a xbox points card and get the mythic map pack!

So what happened on Feb 27th? Wasn't the world going to end? What happened did Killzone 2 not live up to all your cheerleading? I thought it was great how it took almost a month to sell 1 million copies while it took Halo 3 all of 5 hours to sell over 1 million with a total of 2.48 million sold in the first day! How about last year with Resistance 2 and Gears 2? Same story different year....what happened? Oh I know resistance sold 2.5 million and Gears sold 5 million...but I guess it was that fact that Gears was released on Nov 7th while Resistance 2 was the 27th ..those extra 20 days that gave Gears the edge!LOL!! As always you don't need anyone to tell how much of a tool you are you do a fine job on your own but now with the rating system per post we all can share just how much we like you!!!

ODST is going to be great! I talked to Bungie at E3 and initially the game was simply going to be a Halo 3 Campaign expansion. BECAUSE of the level of hype, and (I suspect) knowing that the price point was going to be set at $60, they ADDED Firefight, as well as buffing out the Campaign a little.
BLEAHY is right, Firefight is the sweetness. As far as console-shooter controls go, I would place this AND COD4+ on the same. Different games require different layouts and sensitivites. Both are great. This is a fact, not an opinion. I would also put Valve's stuff up as shining examples of PC controls (recently, TF2 & L4D).
Also don't forget that you'll have the complete Halo 3 Multiplayer suite (every map including the 3 new Mythics) on disc 2. Bungie told me that the rest of the Vidmaster achievements (which will unlock Recon) are going to be much more difficult than everybody thinks... Just sayin'. If you love Halo, you're going to love ODST. If you don't love Halo, rent it and see if you like Firefight. I hope CODMW2 puts in a Horde mode. That'd be badass :)

I must say I am impressed with Bungie this time around. Halo 3 was not as good as Halo 2(Halo 2 is the best Halo game and best Xbox/Xbox 360 game out there)But, Everything that has been shown of ODST looks promising. The new campaign, Firefight, 3 New Halo 3 maps, Access to the Halo: Reach beta, and the ability to finaly unlock Recon armor make this worth the $60.

If Sark says it's awesome I have no reason not to believe him. Even if the game isn't drastically different I think I'll appreciate a slight change to the overall game. Sequels do tend to get tired, I'm glad to see a fresh coat of paint on Halo
