The unexpected delay of BioShock 2 has been given a little more clarity this afternoon, as Take-Two Interactive held a conference call to discuss the news with analysts. Take-Two has clarified BioShock 2 will arrive in the first half of 2010, but provided no further specifics on when BioShock 2 would drop. Spring? Early summer? No idea just yet.
On the call, Take-Two executives categorized the delay of BioShock 2 as being related to development overall (they were called "development issues") and not related to a problem with development in a single platform or related to an individual gameplay feature.
The delay was necessary, argued Take-Two, because BioShock is considered an "extremely valuable franchise" and releasing BioShock 2 before it was ready would do "damage to brand equity and fan loyalty." A subpar BioShock 2 would hurt the "longterm value of the BioShock franchise," reiterating Take-Two's previous views that BioShock 2 is not the end of the BioShock games, but simply a stepping stone to others.
It's somewhat comforting to know there's one less game I'll need to play later this year, and hey, maybe in BioShock 2's place, I'll just have to play BioShock again. There are worst fates.

Well, if they are making it better by postponing it, i guess that's fine. They better not keep doing that too many times 'cause then that's just too much D :<</safety_wrapper>

Atleast we know that the longer it takes for it to be released the more amazing its going to be, even though it does kind of piss me off that they havent said when its going to be released. argh!!!

i hate the way morgan speaks I mean she speaks way too fast and she jokes around when she's talking about any game and the other guys have that same problem. I was watching today's show about the 5 top superhero games and the guy talking about the game lied twice about features in some of the games. I wish kevin and olvia can also talk about games like on x play or they could have them as host. Honestly I'm tired of adam and morgan

SOOOOOO many titles are coming out this year and early next that its not that much of a blow to the real Biofans. JUST PLZ geeks no unathorized leaks or other nonsense that will screw up the release. Take all the time you need to make it as good or better than the original (IF thats possible).

as long as were not talking duke nukem "delayed" ill live. since i would be more upset if they half assed it.

That really bites my ass but i guess it is ok because they can make it better than release it early.

I'm fine with a company taking the time to refine and perfect a game before it's released. I've been let down so many times by inferior games that were hyped in the media, but failed to deliver on their promises. I only fear the possible Duke Nukem Forever scenario. I'm not sure BioShock 2 is or will be as highly anticipated as DNF, but what happened with 3D Realms has me just a little weary everytime a company says "their taking their time". Granted Take-Two has a better release track record, but still...

i perfer them come out wit the game later and have less bugs/glitches in it rather then them rush the games out on shelves and then have everyone complain about all the problems itll have

yeah placing this around the time ff13 ships multiplatform. wow, nice!

i'm obviously really excited to play this game, but they can take some time to perfect it in my opinion. the worst is when a company releases all of these previews and features in magazines and THEN decides to delay their game. it would have softened the blow a bit if they didn't hype it as much.
i guess the next question is how long are they going to delay bioshock 2?
GorgeousGamerGirl
I will admit i am a bit disappointed, but i would rather them take a little longer to perfect this game than to release it and it not live up the high expectations that we all have for this game. I just hope they pick a date and soon so i can mark it on my calander and reserve it!

im kinda mad...i mean i was looking forward to it. but hey, nothing wrong with making it better. looked good enought to me though in the demo vid. as long as it dont end up like a gran turismo title...which always seem to make delays.

i'm pretty sure bioshock was being released on nov 3 and then like a week later was MF2 and a week after that was assassins creed
GamersVoiceOfReason
I'd want to get pushed to the first half of 2010 too if my release date was sandwiched between Assassin's Creed 2 and COD: Modern Warfare 2.
Regardless of the rumors why this happened, consider it a tragedy caused by the almighty dollar. With the economy the way it is now, a lot of people don't have the funds to buy 3 games in November alone. Bioshock 2 will sell more copies getting pushed. I don't see this being released around GOW 3 either, so I would expect it either late Summer or Fall when there are less game of the year candidates hanging around.
Prubar
Thank god this happened. In the span of three weeks CODMW2, L4D2, and Bioshock 2 were all coming out. Now all I have to worry about is just the 2 games instead of 3.
AttackOnSundown
I'm disappointed that the release has ben delayed, but i would have been even more disappointed if it was released in November but wasn't fully on par with the first game

IMHO, Take-Two can take as much time as they need. There is nothing worse than the anticipation of a sequel that fails to deliver, particularly when dealing with a AAA title such as Bioshock. Take-Two has a lot to live up to and anything less than stellar would be extremely disappointing. That being said I sure hope that the release of Bioshock 2 and God of War 3 don't coincide. I think that would cause my brain to explode due to an inablility to decide which game to play for hours and hours.

its all for the best....i can wait. part one is up there you know.and it would suck to see part two drown. so if they need to get the kinks out,i say (suckieduckiequackquack)!!!
yodajonesx
Rather play a good Bioshock 2 next year than a crappy one right away.
