Dragon Quest IX Sells Over 2.3 Million Units In Just Two DaysLast week, it was reported that around 2 million gamers in Japan had preordered Square Enix's RPG Dragon Quest IX for the Nintendo DS. However, that number was just an estimate, and as such, it couldn't necessarily be relied on in terms of accurately assessing what the sales figures would be on release day.

Well, the game came out this past weekend, and it turns out those early estimates were strikingly accurate. Andriasang.com reports that sales tracking firm Rival Media Create has put the total number of units sold during the game's first two days of release at around 2.3 million. Strangely enough, those two days are being considered the game's "first week of sale." In 2004, Dragon Quest VIII sold 2.23 million units during its "first week" on store shelves, and then went on to sell almost 5 million units worldwide. Given the game's strong start, it seems safe to assume that this latest installment will surpass those sales figures.
