Whether it's a new Twisted Metal or not, apparently the world is about to learn what God of War designer David Jaffe has been working on since Calling All Cars. On Twitter, Jaffe responded to a comment directed at him regarding God of War III, asking the follower to purchase his new game, which would be "announced soon."
The popular speculation is that Jaffe has been working on a next-generation take on his beloved Twisted Metal series, a franchise that's taken a backseat since the critically acclaimed Twisted Metal Black (a sequel was in development but eventually scrapped) and Twisted Metal: Head-On for PSP.
With the vehicular combat genres currently dead in the water, a new Twisted Metal could be exactly what the industry is looking for right now.

I love Twisted Metal and it's fun to me but there is 3 flaws to though
1.They should have made the game more in detail.
2.Make the car explosions more real.
3.Make the weapons more real.
But this game rules!!

if it is a new twisted metal game (a series of games i have loved) maybe it will be where you play single charter, sweet tooth (needles kane) probably. Playing as the blood thirsty clown you go around killing, murdering and slaughtering everyone you need to to get at calypso. along the way you would encounter a vast number of other characters from the TM series as well as new ones. the game play would be a mix of in car killing,like TM games of old and on foot killings, like god of war. wide range of weapons would be at your disposal as well as different types of vehicles to use. maybe the idea is a little to close to GTA but i think if done right it could work.

Twisted Metal is awesome! It's one of the first games that I played on the PS1! :)

i just find it odd that mr jaffe went from the god of war franchise to trying to improve on the tired true formula of the twisted metal franchise. i'd rather he have started a whole new IP or at least stayed on the god of war team. it seems like a step down to me. how can someone give a fresh injection to a franchise plagued by misfortune. if you know the backstory of the development team of the franchise you'll know what i mean.

Twisted Metal didnt die out, they killed it, i dont think that this is a coincidence now, a 299 dollar slim PS3 and Twisted Metal sounds great, but i do agree that GOW 3 looks worse than the first one.

Twisted Metal was a garbage franchise. It died out for a reason.
Jaffe strikes me as someone who wants to do what he wants...so here's hoping to a new IP. He didn't stick around for the 3rd God of War (imho looks underwhelming so far)...I just don't see him doing another TM.
(unless you need rent and food, i understand going back to the well Mr. Jaffe)

I'd be glad with more of the same. I was fond of part 2 and Black. Even if they can't take the gameplay much further it's not like we have other games in the same category to fill in. No third person gimmicks, no GTA clone, just stick with what works. I've seen too many big names go downhill because dev's thought they needed to do something different, and ruined them instead.

It's going to be God of Peace. About a guy who gets along with everyone and doesn't really have any problems. It'll be great.

well he was suppose to be developing the next Twisted Metal anyway so it has to be it, anything else would be a disappointment.

squishes is dead on. Remember on the Ps1, this game was huge, and a blast to play. Twisted metal black was one of my favorites on the Ps2 because it was one of the first released, if memory serves correct. I seriously doubt they would rehash the same gameplay mechanics with PS3 graphics. If there is a new twisted metal game in the works, it will be new gameplay mechanics and maybe open world such as what squishes say. Or it could be something entirely new and exciting like the game Rage, which incorporates vehicular mayhem as a major component.

I'd like to see the twisted metal series go third person shooter style. You could get in your car and kill others that way or get out on foot and take each other out. I guess I'm basically thinking of GTA IV with customizable cars and super powers.

I'm kind of over Twisted Metal. It was great on the PS1 and even twisted metal black was good, but I can't really see a twisted metal game pushing the limits or really doing anything all that new on the current platforms.
I'm hoping for a brand new IP from Jaffe.

It's a good thing you claimed the series was "beloved" and "critically "acclaimed" or jaffe would write a blog calling you a C-sucker. However, the gamerankings.com averages say this series sucks.
