Will Super Mario Galaxy 2 be "hardcore"? In the latest issue of Nintendo Power, Shigeru Miyamoto shared the following:
"I do believe that there is a lot here to appeal to the more veteran and more experienced gamers, and I think it’s a title that they will obviously enjoy, but I really took it into consideration and tried to do our best to create a game that’s accessible to new gamers as well. And, you know, we also built it with consideration that we believe that people who played through the first Mario Galaxy have become better players."
I don't think the opening statement about "veteran and more experienced gamers" is that major, honestly. Super Mario Galaxy had a ton of crossover appeal with the "hardcore" crowd and I expect the sequel to be no different. This reads as a carefully placed nod to those "veteran" gamers.
The bit about Nintendo taking into consideration the fact that players may have gotten better after playing the first Super Mario Galaxy, however, is interesting. Could this represent the beginning of the Wii growing up with its audience? Honestly, I would just take more Mario Galaxy, but anything that adds depth and replayability is alright by me.
Besides Yoshi, what would you like to see in Super Mario Galaxy 2?

I enjoyed the first mario galaxy( actually its one of my favorite mario games) but it needs to take FULL advantage of what the wii can do.... even if not much more than galaxy-_-
ps. the rumored wii hd wouldn't go bad with this tittle either.

I like that there is always something new in each world and you can use different Yoshis to help you to get somewhere that would be difficult to get to if you didn't have Yoshi.

I want to see Luigi come back, not only in one player mode, but they should have a co-op with mario and luigi, or at least take turns, I want to see harder bosses, because bowser couldn't even hit me, I love bowser, he is an awsome bad guy, but in the real mario games the always dumb him down, I want to see giant homeing bullet bills chasing after me and bowser jr. spitting little fire balls at me, while surrounded by lava with lava balls shootig up while I'm fighting bowser, and I want to grab his tail and have to throw him in to the lava several times, and when I've beaten him, I want to see him become Giga Bowser and be twice as hard!!!!! ya that would be awsome, but as long as they made it beatable.

I want secret side stages of old levels from mario 1, 2, 3, and Super mario world 1 and 2. Have them re-made in 3-D, Time runs, co-op,mini games, and 4 playable charcters(that are not mario). Now if by some reason, at least two of the many things I just wrote, make it in the real game. I'll be surprised to say the least

If this games has Luigi as a playable character, then he should have his own story entirely. And if he does, the princess he rescues should be Daisy, not Peach.

Okay, Nintendo and Mario needed to come out with Little Big Planet waaay before ps3 did.. 4 player co op is looking to be copied in New Super Mario Bros Wii, but with no sight of a level editor. I believe a Mario 3D game with a level editor and an online community would be the bomb and blow away the competition. But, Nintendo has other ideas up their sleeves and it looks to be more and more gimmicky every day!. Come on nintendo. Take Mario Vs Donkey Kong Minis idea and please apply it to the either New Super Mario Bros Wii or Galaxy 2. Ill be happy either way. To keep it simple, all i ask is for Mario Sunshine "Secret Of" Levels.. with simple blocks that rotate and jumping off walls etc.. i love that kinda platformer to be a level editor.!!

Mario Galaxy 1 was already hardcore...you really have to be an experienced gamer to complete the game 100% and a lot of the secret stars were near impossible?
This article isn't even valid. All of Nintendo's AAA and first party titles are hardcore. Having a dark theme / blood and guts doesn't make a game more hardcore. That's not Nintendo's ultimatum...it's about making games unique and challenging, and Nintendo does it best.
