In case you were worried about whether Square Enix's RPG Dragon Quest IX for the Nintendo DS was going to be a big seller in Japan when it goes on sale on July 11, worry no more (And shame on you for worrying by the way. This franchise is huge!).
Kotaku reports that as of July 5, 1.2 million preorders had been officially issued, but that number could very well be a hovering around the 2 million mark right now, thanks to the addition of 200,000 new orders this week. Amateur mathematicians out there will notice that those numbers obviously don't add up, but that's because there appears to be some uncertainty as to which retailers this data is attributed, and those estimates could easily be higher.
The game ships tomorrow (after being delayed almost four months), so at least we won't have to wait much longer to find out how many of these babies make their way into the hands of adoring fans. Still no word yet on when the game will be showing up stateside.
What are Dragon Quest fans looking forward to the most in the installment?

I really wish this was on a console; I love the series but something about handheld games makes me unable to stand them. The only handheld I've ever been able to play and enjoy was pokemon blue back in the day.

Dragon Quest has always been a huge hit and I hope to see it in the US soon like everyone else is.

More importantly, when will this game come out to the US?

This is such an enormous franchise in Japan. It's interesting to see that Final Fantasy's popularity is uniformly global, but DQ -- while certainly popular -- has a pretty big drop off outside of Japan.

Nice, when does it come to the US?
