In case you hadn’t heard, Comic Con is around the corner, and G4 will be blowing out coverage from San Diego. Among our big scoops from the show, we’ll have exclusive coverage of Ratchet & Clank Future: A Crack in Time. G4 is co-sponsoring an Insomniac Games event where the unveiling of the results of the “Captain Qwark’s My Blaster Runs Hot” weapons contest will take place, and X-Play’s Adam Sessler will present the winner with a real-life replica of his or her tool of destruction.

The contest started a few months back following Game Developers Conference. Community manager James Stevenson put out an open call to franchise fans for gamer-submitted weapons for the next adventure. After narrowing down 1100 entries to five weapons, PlayStation Blog users voted on the five guns during a week-long period in late April. The world will finally get to see the winning armament in a little over two weeks’ time at ComicCon.

The nominees include:

  • Plasma Sprinkler Glove – Throws a grenade-shaped item that turns into a sprinkler that fires plasma.
  • Spiral of Death – Charges up energy and releases it in a spiral that sends enemies flying causing damage in the process.
  • Bubble Shot – Fires corrosive bubbles at your opponent.
  • Qwark Machine – A glove that fires small balls releasing small Qwarks that attack the enemy.
  • Super-Sized Sticky Hand Toy – Used to slap enemies, or if used in a different mode, can wrap around the enemy allowing the user to throw the enemy around.

Immediately after the presentation, Sony will open up the floor to gaming media for the first hands-on demo with A Crack in Time. Keep an eye out for our preview of the latest in the PS3-exclusive series!

If you’re going to be in San Diego for the convention, you might be able to join us on that warm Wednesday evening for some face time with A Crack in Time. SCEA is also sponsoring a contest that gives you a chance to attend this event, as well as an exclusive Sony-sponsored event that includes hands-on demos with some of Sony’s “biggest upcoming PS3, PSP and PSN titles.” Check out the PlayStation Blog for more details. Sony also revealed that creative director Brian Allgeier and other team members will be leading a panel on the final day of the show. If you’re a hardcore fan of furry Lombaxes and their robotic companions, make sure you’re in line early to check this one out. Allgeier and crew will be showing off a fresh trailer, new gameplay, and new weapon tech.

Personally, I just hope the Groovitron comes back. I loved throwing that thing at gigantic T-Rexes in Tools of Destruction.

Do you have any crazy weapon ideas that you submitted to the contest?

I'm all about the Qwark Machine and the Plasma Sprinkler. I keep imagining a deadly lawn sprinkler that shoots plasma, and that makes me chuckle just a little bit more than an army of Captain Qwarks.

That said, I'd be happy with either of those two winning.

As long as the Groovitron comes back.

Remove the space in the words 'albums' and 'Surrender' and you've got a working link, regardless of the site's sabotage.

G4 is quite balanced. I was being sarcastic in my post, considering all the nut-less Sony fanboys out there with their witchhunt on G4 journalists claiming favoritism.

All those weapons sound so Insomniac. Great creativity.

On a side note, what ever came of the company that was going to make R&C action figures?

Ok...enough already with the G4/XBot references. Whether M$oft sponsors G4 to a degree or not, G4 has been balanced when it comes to reporting news, reviews and such. I mean really...fanboys and girls need to quit that shyte and get on with the GAMING.

Darn, what happened to the 'Shotgun-chuck'?
My vote would go for the Quark Machine or Sticky Hand Toy.
