Assassin's Creed 2 Developer Diary #1 »

Ubisoft’s Renaissance-era stealth action title Assassin’s Creed 2 is understandably one of the most anticipated games of the year, and all you have to do to find out why is take a look at the game in action. And while I totally dug the first game, I understand the complaints regarding the repetitive mission structures and lack of depth. Fortunately, Ubisoft is looking to remedy those mistakes in the sequel, as well as beef up the scope of the entire experience.

During a massive Q&A session held on the company’s forums, Ubisoft confirmed that the “core of the game will be longer than the 20 hours it took in the first game,” as reported by VideoGamer.

On the topic of gameplay variety, Ubisoft stated:

“We have developed several different optional gameplay that will add a lot of depth to the whole experience and will also extend your gameplay time in a very significant and meaningful way. As for the exact number of hours it will require it’s still too early to say!”

Ubisoft also confirmed that while it still sees Assassin’s Creed as a trilogy, it also wants to “continue extending the universe we’ve created. There are still many more stories we want to tell about the Assassin’s Brotherhood.”

So it seems fans can safely expect to see more spin-offs like Assassin’s Creed: Bloodlines and AC: Altair Chronicles down the road. Sounds good to me. I’ve been obsessed with this franchise since the first glimpses of concept art, so as far as I’m concerned, the more AC the better.

What aspect of Assassin’s Creed 2 are you looking forward to the most?

Is everyone forgetting the combat??? The counter attacks in that game are STILL some of the sickest out there and it looks like there gonna be even better in part 2

All I'm hoping for from this game is that it actually have an end! I felt I wasted my time collecting flags and towers for a lord of the rings cut off. I also want to see Leonardo De Vinci.

I thought the first AC was the best game of this console generation. People who complain about the repetitiveness are probably the same people who then turn on Halo 3 and shoot at brutes with the Battle Rifle for hours on end, so what the hell would they know?

What I'm looking forward to most in this one is the new setting. The gameplay demo with the Venice canals, the people dancing, and the fireworks in the sky took my breathe away.

ac 1 for me was one of the greatest video game dissapointment ever. like spleendingo said, way over-hyped. i started by saving the citizens, finding flags, and getting viewpoints. by the end, i just did enough to get the mission over with. plus, the animus was just stupid.

Hopefully they aren't the same side missions over and over and over and over and over again.

She got scared off by internet jerks who made a disturbing comic about her... though I think you should have thicker skin in the spotlight.

I'm looking forward to new weapons, and being able to swim. Also more than 5 sub-mission types...

Oh yeah, and I miss Jade Raymond. Whatever happened to her?

Overall, I liked AC 1, but like many, thought the side missions were too repetitive, and generally unsatisfying. On the plus side, I enjoyed the parkour and the graphics were impressive. If they flesh out the side missions, AC2 could really be something special.

The first game was over-hyped before it's release and, therefore, sold really well. I enjoyed it for the most part, but never did finish. In my opinion, it was repetitive and, at times, boring. If they're going to offer over 20 hours of gameplay, I hope it's not the same 6-7 missions over and over again

I too liked Assassin's Creed and my only complaint was the repetitiveness as well. I'm mostly looking forward to see how they can fix this problem. Also, it took way less than 20 hours to end the first game.

I'm looking forward to the part of Assassin's Creed 2 that doesn't suck.

Hopefully, it will be more than one.
