Assassin's Creed 2 Developer Diary #1 »

Ubisoft’s Renaissance-era stealth action title Assassin’s Creed 2 is understandably one of the most anticipated games of the year, and all you have to do to find out why is take a look at the game in action. And while I totally dug the first game, I understand the complaints regarding the repetitive mission structures and lack of depth. Fortunately, Ubisoft is looking to remedy those mistakes in the sequel, as well as beef up the scope of the entire experience.

During a massive Q&A session held on the company’s forums, Ubisoft confirmed that the “core of the game will be longer than the 20 hours it took in the first game,” as reported by VideoGamer.

On the topic of gameplay variety, Ubisoft stated:

“We have developed several different optional gameplay that will add a lot of depth to the whole experience and will also extend your gameplay time in a very significant and meaningful way. As for the exact number of hours it will require it’s still too early to say!”

Ubisoft also confirmed that while it still sees Assassin’s Creed as a trilogy, it also wants to “continue extending the universe we’ve created. There are still many more stories we want to tell about the Assassin’s Brotherhood.”

So it seems fans can safely expect to see more spin-offs like Assassin’s Creed: Bloodlines and AC: Altair Chronicles down the road. Sounds good to me. I’ve been obsessed with this franchise since the first glimpses of concept art, so as far as I’m concerned, the more AC the better.

What aspect of Assassin’s Creed 2 are you looking forward to the most?

    They gave away too much in the video diary. Now we know that the dad isn't a banker and that he dies and that he probably was involved in something bad to get him killed on the first place. They shouldn't have said as far as we know, he's a banker. The should have just said he is a banker. I don't know about you, but I am not going to get mad if they tell me he is a banker an I find out later on in the game that he is really a guy killing a bunch of people. I would actually enjoy the surprise. Maybe that is just me though.

    Hey, don't knock AC1, now, dudes. The fighting system was AWESOME, not to mention fluid if you had the mad skillz to pull off the moves. There was something sickeningly sweet about the sound of bones crunching beneath his blade... Ubi's definitely going to smoke 'em this time with AC2... >:]

    I was looking at who played the voices in assassins creed 2 and found that Altiar was in it. I checked Assassins creed 1 and found that some one else plays his voice. That sucks that some one else had to play him. I liked his old voice. But if you play as Ezio about 300 years after Altiar, then how does he fit in? Hmmmm...

    What i'm looking forward to in "Assassin's Creed 2" is the story line. For if all you know that in the first Assassin's you left it with a cliff hangar as desmond barely learns his ancestral power and views writing's on his wall in his room. Hopefully "Assassin's Creed 2" will give more in depth clues to the brotherhood and continue desmonds adventure to find who he truly is.

    In my opinion, AC1 was great at first. Over time, it became repetitive and as a result broke player immersion/interest. The core material was fun and entertaining, but the way Ubisoft told the player to use it became a letdown. AC1 was repetitive, that's the biggest complaint about it and Ubisoft is doing their best to fix that, so why are you guys getting all upset? They're also altering the collectables to give you actual bonuses when you get them (and not just an achievement). Seriously, they know what they did wrong and are trying to rectify it, so why are you crawling down their throats? Accept what they're trying to do and approach AC2 with an open mind. I for one am looking forward to it and hope Ubisoft lives up to their promises.

    @Juicelee,
    a BIT repetetive? The whole game was pretty much the same thing over and over again. Additionally, even though neither GOW nor Halo had the best stories of this consoles geneeration, both had better stories than AC 1. Bioshock blew any other game story of this generation out of the water. Also, just because something isn't a shooter doesn't make it original. All that ubisoft really added was the ability to climb pretty much anything.ac 1 was a huge let down.

    ac 1 WAS a bit repetitive but had probably the best story of this console generation (dont you dare give me that GOW/halo ish either both of those games are just really bland sci-fi war stories)
    ubisoft actually did something original and WASNT a shooter I really hope they continue to expand on this great story as well as the gameplay... and most of all I WANT DLC SIDE MISSIONS/WEAPONS!!!

    The first game took 20 hours? To make or to play? I thought for sure I finished it in about 8 hours including all optional missions and collecting every flag. x-x

    Lol all games say something like that, they never hold true. But this might be true, 20 hours of looking for the next objective like in AC (Before I found out you needed view points)

    Hopefully Altair and Ezio show up again for Assassin's Creed 3. We all know this game is going to end on a cliffhanger, so I'm hoping that they take the best of the two games and make an awesome conclusion.
