I hesitate to tell you about this, given that I haven’t yet run it by my handlers over at Microsoft, but hopefully they won’t read the site today (I can’t afford to miss out on this week’s pay off). Anyway, I just wanted to let you know that Best Buy is currently selling (only online) a new 80GB PlayStation 3 bundled with Killzone 2 and Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots for $399.99.
If I didn’t (allegedly) despise Sony and the PS3 will every ounce of my pale being (or if I didn’t receive monthly massages from Major Nelson), I’d say that this is easily the best console bundle of this generation. I’d also say that this new bundle is most likely Sony’s way of getting current PS3’s off of store shelves to make room for the new PS3 Slim expected to ship sometime next month, but I know that that would just be more confirmation of my being employed by Microsoft. So I’ll go ahead and quote CNET's David Carnoy, who said:
“The big question is whether this is part of a concerted effort by Sony to clear the channel of ‘old’ consoles to make room for the potential release of the rumored PS3 Slim, which many hope will cost $300. A recent report suggests that a new PS3 may arrive as soon as this summer.”
There is one thing worth bringing up briefly though, and that's the fact that currently, you can purchase both of these titles for around $90 (MGS4 is now $30, while KZ2 is stil $60). So if Sony does have plans to release a PS3 Slim soon, wouldn't most non-PS3 owners be more inclined to just wait another few weeks, and spend their $400 on a Slim and these two games? They've held out this long. What's another month or so? Perhaps Sony is planning to push the Slim's release until the winter sometime, in the hopes that potential PS3 owners will give in to deals, like this new bundle, in the meantime. I guess we'll know soon enough.
Either way, it looks like the next few months are going to be exciting ones for prospective PS3 owners. Praising Sony?! It burns! It burns!!

I paid more for my iphone than sony wants you to pay for the PS3. in fact if i broke my 32 gig 3GS apple would make me pay 700 dollars to replace it. for 400 or whatever it is these days (i paid more when it came out) it's a steal, especially since you get bluray support

ya, with USB integrated on both the PS3 and the Xbox I'm surprised there isn't more KB/M support for games. I donn't think it would be cheating, kids prefer the controller and those of us who have been gaming for a while are used to the precision of KB/M. then again I'd have to stick a TV tray in front of my couch to get that to work and frankly I'm just not that devoted to games. At least with a wireless controller I can put it away so my girlfriend will still have sex with me.
I wouldn't mind the PS controller if the joysticks changed. they just don't seem to have the feedback that the xbox does, almost like they are really lose? I may be alone on that one though

i actually prefer the ps3 controller for shooters and especially for fighters, racers, and rpgs. controller is JUST a matter of preferance. Arcade sticks are over rated. ill beat anyones a** using an arcade stick, more so blankas and bisons.

I rather like the PS3 controller. The reason they've been using it for so long is because they don't need to fix what isn't broken. Everything is easily accessable and in a familiar arrangement. I mean what else do you want?
I too have given up on PC's. I don't mind turning down the settings for new games and only upgrading every 5 years or so, but recently it's gotten to the point you can't trust PC games. They come infected with DRM or the Steam virus. Or they refuse to work because I'm not using M$'s terrible XP or Vista. Too many hoops to jump through, so I chose to stay with consoles this time. I just wish console FPS's supported M/KB like Ut3 did so I won't need to give up a whole genre due to forced childish controls and those same kiddies whining that M/KB is 'too good'.

I'm really excited about this news. I will likely be one to hold out for the Slim, assuming that it's $299. I've owned a 360 for two years now and the pricing on the PS3 was always the one thing that scared me off.
I find the "console wars" kind of hilarious. I always assume when I buy something that the company doesn't actually give a crap about me, it's all about numbers. I usually respond in kind, find the best experience for the least money. The second someone comes out with something better, cheaper, or both...screw loyalty.
That said, I look forward to hopefully owning a PS3 soon. Diverse experiences ftw!

@DPsx7 as a fan of several platforms including RPG, racing, FPS, sports, and many others I agree with you. I refuse to buy a new computer every year to keep up with PC games but I do find PS3 controls much more frustrating than Xbox games. I just think the PS controller needs an overhaul, the design is like 13 years old now. (don't get me wrong, i'm thrilled they decided not to use the boomerang)

How is M$'s online superior? Name any other console that goes online and it'll both be free and better. Simple fact. The fankids will concoct any excuse they can to explain why they're paying $50 a year ($300+ over the console's lifespan) to pretty much view ads and nothing else we don't get elsewhere.
That's one of the biggest things keeping the 360 from being a real console. There's no variety outside of sports and FPS's. I don't like sports games and FPS's are ONLY playable on PC or with a M/KB setup. The rest are auto-aiming kiddie versions, which I guess would suit the 360 audience all too well? I won't ever touch crap like Killzone either, suffers the same control problems.

Thats a great price if you dont have a PS3 get one I have both a 360 and PS3 and if you are a true gamer then you know the 360 is best for FPS (first person shooter for you noobs)and microsofts online is superior but the PS3 is better for action, RPG , fighting, etc.. anyone who is too much of a fanboy and lets that stop them from owning both systems you are a dumb a## poser!

I don't think Activision would be a big loss. Have you seen the list? There's nothing on it worth keeping really. Sure I might try GH5 if the songs are good, but Rock Band is a better game to me. That's about all, they dumped the other original games I was looking forward to.
