Hideo Kojima should be very nervous right about now, because a new, very promising, contender for "Most ridiculous game teaser ever" has just moseyed into town. The latest entry (allegedly) comes via developer Piranha Games, and according to Voodoo Extreme, the nine-second video, which simply shows a giant mech-foot stepping into frame before fading to black, is the teaser for a new MechWarrior game.
It's been nine years since the last MechWarrior game, and in 2007, Microsoft closed FASA Corp. (creators of the MechWarrior franchise). FASA's IP rights were then acquired by publisher Smith and Tinker founder, and ex-FASA executive, Jordan Weisman. At the time, as GameSpot reported, Weisman promised to "surprise and delight old fans, while welcoming new fans into these fantastic worlds." Since then, there's been very little to speak of on the gaming front from the company.
However, in light of this new video "evidence," and considering Piranha Games recently co-developed Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, it seems now's as good a time as any to revive the popular mech franchise. I reached out to Piranha Games, and Smith and Tinker for comment, but I have yet to hear back at the time of this writing.
In the mean time - New alleged MechWarrior video: Great teaser, or greatest teaser?

incase my comment in reply to xxsodaboy doesnt go through im just going to say that an idea like an online/mmo game set in the battletech universe would be a brilliant idea, it would be perfect for that environment with everything already set up factions wise and tech wise and adventure wise.

loved the early PC games. MechWarrior 2 and 3 were loads of fun. hope they do this right. would be a blast on next-gen systems.
and by the way, a nitty gritty MechWarrior movie would blow Transformers out of the water. Not some over-done Michael Bay job, but more along the lines of Blade Runner, the first matrix, early terminators, or Alien. Ridley Scott or James Cameron type job. If Lucas could reproduce the original 3 star wars i'd say him too, but....yeah...
Wish I had the money to make that happen.

Mech assault 3? Mbuuuuhhhhh

mech games are interesting because everyone rushes to play them cuz how could there be a bad game about giant robots? then we play them and we say to ourselves " how could they mess up a game about giant robots?"

Go to hell Joshua. No reason for that at all.

According to mektek.net, there's another teaser now on YouTube.

SInce there is an Audi R8 in the trailer I'm going to assume that this Mech Warrior game takes place in the present. I hope there is a "destroy the Michael jackson memorial service" level

There is still a "live" version of mechwarrior being played by many gamers online. The good folks at www.mektek.net have been keeping multiplayer boards open as well as developing new content for Mechwarrior.
There have been countless rumors over the years about the new version of Mechwarrior. This feels like the most likely, but, I am not gettong too excited until there is some evidence of progress on the game, not just a very cool teaser.

Anyone who played the pen&paper Mechwarrior back in the day knows there is so much more they can do with the franchise than just mech combat. MechAssault was ok but they can do so much more. Mech, Aerospace Fighters, Dropships, vehicles, battle armor. The politics of the great houses during the succession wars before the clans attacked can be utilized to make a kick ass game.

Logistics aside, I'd love to see a Mechwarrior game along the same vein as EVE Online.

I was just thinking about a new Mechwarrior coming out since the new trend is reviving old games.

DOn't know why they stopped making them actually. I guess perceived market saturation. They need to 'uncomplicate' it again, get a new breed of casual gamers and then slowly turn them into hardcore by increasing complexity with subsequent versions. As a longtimer, I could appreciate that tactic for a version or two. Multiplayer could be the bomb in that universe.

Awesome. I never played any of the PC game, but I was a HUGE fan of the SNES version. The one where it was 3D that is. I didn't care for the one that was an overhead view.
