I'm not a big fan of the cross media bar interface on the PlayStation 3. It's functional, efficient and perfect for a handheld like the PSP, but after Microsoft's impressive (if understandably flawed) overhaul of the Xbox 360 interface with last fall's New Xbox Experience, I've been hoping Sony has been quietly working on something similar for their console. Apparently not.
"Right now the XMB [cross media bar] is an Emmy Award-winning interface and people like it," said Sony director of network operations Eric Lempel to CVG. "They're very comfortable with it. So we're not looking to do anything radical. We'll still do some research behind the scenes and see what can we do to make things better, or how can we make it so consumers find content faster, but right now we're pretty happy with it. No plans right now to do anything like what the competitor has done."
You know my thoughts already -- something a little flashier isn't a bad thing, is it?

Personally, the "new" Xbox experience sucks. The XMB is WAY better.

If they made another new interface and make it optional that would be great. I would rather have the old xbox dash than NXE, because of load times.

i love the XMB it is fast, easy, and has everything i need, though...i could go for them doing xmb game launching...kind of like home...only.....without home.....

@L4Dfan- You can. You can text, voice, or video chat outside of games.

Sony is right in the fact that the XMB is an award winning interface and that people like it. But that's just it. They don't love it. It's BS that Sony is making the majority of PS3 owners stick with the XMB instead of providing different types of XMB's for us to download. The themes are just cosmetic make-overs and don't change the XMB experience and I wish Sony would see that there are PS3 owners who would prefer a different interface.

@patrick
Flashier is stupid.

they just need to fix the communication part of the ps3, u should be able to talk outside of games too!

There's nothing wrong with the XMB. If it's not broken then don't fix it. I'd like to see more content and additional movie format(MKV anyone) in their next firmware update.

I like the XMB just fine. I just want a little more multitasking within the system. That would be nice.

That is why i love sony... the ps3 is very powerful yet simple. Even thought the XMB could be flashier, there is no need to it. I think the simplicity of it makes it look powerful enough.

I know I'm gonna get bashed for this, but while I like the XMB, I think they should make it better looking. No offense but the default XMB feels like I'm using an overpowered PSP, I wish thy would make the XMB look a little more animated to show the power of the PS3.

Nothing wrong here. Dont know what the big deal is, Sony says they arent going to change there entire xmb and you guys get a little angry about it? Seriously how is that news. I wish I could post about stuff I would love to change then get denied by a company and get all snippy about how they didnt help me out. Anyway no big deal here.

@cmdluke
there is an option to change the back ground brightness, that will help a lot.

Yah, I agree with most people on the subject. Its fine the way it is. I personally like NXE better but XMB is free.
RRODisBack
The XMB is great and simple, so what's the problem.

Typical G4 anti-Sony BS. From a UI perspective, going from the XMB to the NXE is like going from a Mac OS X to Windows XP. XMB is fast, uncluttered, no ads... with the XMB, count how many times you have to hit the X button to drill deep out of menus once way in... also, the friends list in the NXE is ridiculous once you have over a few people on your list... pretty to look at, but not functional.
MahBoiTaarec10
If it ain't broken don't fix it.
EdenPrime
XMB is a breath of fresh air compared to the NXE, no ads, no flipping through dozens of menus and drilling into layers upon layers of content.
